Why should the devil have all the good music? RIP Larry Norman. You rocked, buddy.
Entertaining but inaccurate. IMUDO* the best music (and most other creative stuff) comes from people with demons they fight everyday. When someone's no longer fighting (either because they've won or the demons have), they're very boring.

*In My Usually Disregarded Opinion

Nevertheless,
.
for Larry

And for other MeChans who still say "Larry Who?" this from a wire service obit:
At the time of his death, Norman had been working on a new project with Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock and Pixies frontman Frank Black, who cites Norman as a major influence. That music will be released later this year.

Just hours before he died, Norman, who had struggled with heart disease for years, dictated a message to be posted on his Web site. It said, in part, "I feel like a prize in a box of Cracker Jacks with God's hand reaching down to pick me up. I have been under medical care for months. My wounds are getting bigger. I have trouble breathing. I am ready to fly home."

Ah, w, you didn't have the experience of being a Christian back in the late seventies-early eighties when contemporary Christian music was not what it is now...in fact when I became a Christian in 1980 I first thought that I was doomed to have to listen to nothing but gospel quartets...thankfully several days into my new life someone led me by the hand to a Christian bookstore which also sold tapes...my first purchase was Dylan's Long Train Running.

Oh, and what makes you think Christians DON'T fight demons? Either literally or figuratively? I'm a songwriter and I know what you are talking about, really.

Remind me to send you a copy of my friend's book when it comes out.

I didn't mean to say that. I don't consider "finding Jesus" or any version of "finding religion" to be an automatic end of the demon fighting by any stretch, and just didn't make that clear. Complacency is a major cause of bad music (and other bad art), along with "give 'em what we think they want" business thinking and simple incompetence, and there are a lot of complacent Christians, atheists, Devil Worshippers, and members of all spritual/religious categories making all varieties of bad music. Personally, when I am my most content and comfortable, my writing suffers and I think that was my mistake today. Too happy. Let me get back to you when I'm P.O.ed.

Silly Wendell, you write just fine when you are content and comfy. Besides, it isn't like a creative sort like yourself gets to have that as a steady-state condition-just relax and enjoy.

Or, I could try to tick you off if you like, but I'm sure you could find others better at that than me...

The devil is up in the hair of believing people every day too. It's a day to day process and creates fine, fine music.
