Pet Peeve: vagueness presented as "opportunity" [More:]
Them: Hi, we have a client in the area who wants a presentation on our brand of X.
[A presentation, or a contract? What, exactly? vagueness]
Me: I use more tools than just your X for such engagements. [response equally vague]
Them: Are you interested in talking with them or should we contact someone else? [frustration at my reflection of their vagueness]
Me: I prefer not to limit my tools, so yes, contact your other area consultants.[IOW, no money, no clear idea of what client even wants, no deal.Bye.]

Can we just speak English and say, We have potential client in your area looking for a local consultant who knows our business. Are you interested in meeting with them about what their goals are, and if it includes using our business product X, negotiating a fee so all of us can make some money?
Can we just speak English..?

No. And can you please remember to be a good corporate Nazi and omit question marks, making questions into orders when you "ask" someone to do something.

Thank you.

You know, I've tried the 'just speak English' approach, and all I get are blank stares.
Might be cause I'm in Chile.

Here's my version of this pet peeve:

A producer gives me a project that has either A) not enough video, or B) a very vague script, and says to me, "Now, just take this and have fun with it" or "This'll really give you a chance to be creative and play with it."

Translation: "I have no idea how to make TV out of this mound of shit- good luck."

Bonus peeve points: this type of communication also plays off that old canard that what producers do is work, while what video editors do is fun and games.
