I'm insanely excited about the Wyoming caucus. In part because I can't remember the last time Wyoming has been in the news so much since the Matthew Shepard murder. [More:]Fun Wyoming political trivia and how it relates to La Familia Scody: my dad grew up in Casper with Dick Cheney (Seriously! Lynn Cheney actually mentions my dad in her recent book); my mom grew up in Laramie with Kathy Karpan, the former lieutenant governor who's mentioned in the Times article (in fact, Karps was my mom's maid of honor at my parents' wedding).

More fun Wyoming political trivia: one of its nicknames (besides The Cowboy State) is The Equality State, because it was the first state to grant women's suffrage (in 1869, when it was still a territory), and it elected the country's first woman governor, Nellie Tayloe Ross, in 1924.
Guh, that'll teach me to post before my morning cup of tea. Karpan was Secretary of State, not Lt. Gov.

I went to my first caucus this year and found it chaotic, old-fashioned and fun. Have a good time.

Oh, I wish I was there! Times like these, it would be great to still be a resident of a state with 400,000 residents, rather than 40 million. I'm just watching it from afar, jumping up and down and cheering every time I can identify some place they show on the news.

I lived in Bozeman, MT, some 90 miles north of Yellowstone, and I've driven through northern Wyoming a handful of times. It's sheer beauty and I'd live there in a heartbeat if I could figure out a way to eke a living that doesn't involve crops or cows.

Hmmm would that be a new Lynne Cheney lesbian bodice ripper?

Sadly, it's another children's book about patriotism.

(Actually, it's a memoir about growing up in Wyoming in the '40s and '50. But I love the idea of how my dad might fit into the narrative of either a lesbian bodice ripper or a children's book about patriotism!)

desjardins, I didn't realize you lived in Bozeman! Montana's beautiful, too -- god, I haven't been there since I was really little. Would love to go back one day.
