24 March 2008

I just did a task I've been avoiding [More:] [making some awkward phone calls] It was as bad as I expected, but it's done, and I feel sort of stupid for letting it hang on, and relieved for finally doing it. The longer I procrastinate, the worser[sic] I feel.

What do you put off?
Everything. I struggle A. Lot. with procrastination.

Phone calls. *Totally.* OMG, I so hate talking to people on the phone. (Yay for you for doing them!)

Also: dealing with financial crap. And taxes. And getting together with family members. And doing laundry. And, uh, what muddgirl says (*pointing up*)

There's a last minute for a reason.

I've been putting off cleaning out the vegetable crisper in my fridge. Things have been going bad in there for the best part of a month and I've been pretending hard that nothing is wrong. I finally got up the nerve to clean out the disgusting, liquidised mess of forgotten cabbage, celery and something that I couldn't identify but which might have been a pumpkin quarter.

How did it come to this??

Anyhow, it's all clean, washed, bleached, dried and back together. Now I just have to shop for more vegetables to ignore.

Yea, phone calls. I'll sit and stare at the damn phone for 1/2 an hour before getting up the nerve to make a call sometimes. Hate it.

I put off balancing my checkbook. My wife has made it so simple that it barely takes 10 minutes, but I still hate dealing with numbers. I'm so afraid something is going to be wrong, I won't notice it, and I'll wind up broke. It's a silly fear.

Yet another phone-call putter-offer here. When I needed surgery last year, it ended up being delayed by about 5 months because I couldn't bring myself to call around ob-gyns. I actually started 3 months into it, and then made two phone calls and dealt with two equally moronic receptionists that made me put it off for another couple of months. Oh wells.

I never balance my checkbook, so I don't have that procrastination problem :) I actually am still genuinely mystified as to why it is necessary.

It's not. What's the worst that can happen if you don't?

I put off everything. I am putting off off finishing a report by being here. I am putting off going home by staying at work. Everything. I tells ya.

I put off answering emails. I finally responded to a best friend of mine last week after having the email sit in my inbox for two months. It's always easy enough once I do it. I just can't seem to force myself to do it in a timely manner. And every time I get over it and actually answer one, I realise how not bad it is and promise myself I'll be better about it in the future. I never am.

Funny thing is, I spend just about all my free time on my computer.

*raises hand* financial stuff. I used to be awful about phone calls, too. I started rehearsing the calls beforehand and that helps. Now I just worry about face to face visits.

Umm, all of the above. The financial stuff, the calls to doctors, talking to people that I "give" power to. I put off leaving work so I don't have to deal with life, and lately I've been putting off coming in to work because my boss is irritating the hell out of me.

Yep, all of the above, with vengence.

OMG Taxes. Thanks for the reminder. :)

It is immensely reassuring to realize that I am not the only one who avoids making phone calls, and, especially, harvesting voicemail. and then it's not bad, at all, but I hate it. As well as dealing w/ finances, paying bills, answering email, accomplishing home repairs or other home chores.

A lot of things. Laundry is the worst. I put off phone calls too, but that's because of Social Anxiety Disorder, not procrastination.

Phone calls. Doctor appointments. I put off figuring out why I felt horrible for six months because I couldn't handle making a doctor's appointment.

Everything everyone else has mentioned. Especially the financial ones. Which I don't get - all I have to do is write checks and send them out. But I hate doing it. Also, answering voice mails. That comes from years past when I had to dodge bill collectors.
