Ok - dumb question.... Could someone take pity on me and tell me how I post images here?
Use the "image" button you see below the comment box; just click the image button and put in the url for where the image is hosted. So putting in the url for a flickr image would look something like this:
Images are only allowed in comments, not in front page posts. Also, if you want to see (or not see) inline images make sure the "images off/images on" link in the black bar at the top of the page is toggled correctly.
For the "more inside" on a post, just place your cursor where you want the "read more" thingy to begin and click the "MI" button under the comment field.
Oh, here's another tip: let's say you have an image that you want to basically be your front page post, instead of just linking to it. Compose your post in one window, open another window and click "comments" on any post and compose a comment that includes your image, then copy it onto your clipboard (you know - just highlight it all and right click/copy or edit/copy), then make your post and immediately paste your copied comment into the comments for that post, so that it appears as the first comment.
The image has to be hosted somewhere like flickr, imageshack or somewhere like that. If it lived on your desktop, you would be able to see it in your post, but no one else would.
It does have to be hosted somewhere online. I use flickr and photobucket myself (both free accounts - but yes darling Daniel Charms, I'm rilly going to upgrade my Flickr to subscription one of these days); Flickr for keepers and photobucket for playful throwaway stuff... and I'm sure other people have other free hosting that they might recommend.
Another tip: to avoid the dreaded broken image icon, preview your image comment in a different browser than the one you originally found the image in. That is, if your reading mecha in firefox and you find an image you'd like to post, preview the comment in firefox and then preview again in IE. It's a bit of extra work, but it's a good way to ensure the image is being served from the actual webhost rather than your browser cache.
You don't really have to do that, though, if you are linking to your own hosted image. But if you are hotlinking (which is discouraged, for a lot of reasons) it's the only way you can really tell if anyone else can see the image.
Note that you can usually link directly to someone else's Flickr image, but you should include a link to the photo page for that image.
I also use Flickr and Photobucket--Flickr is Flickr, and Photobucket is very, very easy to use. In fact, it's so easy that here's a picture of John McCain:
