I have always put peanut butter on my pancakes right before drenching it with syrup. My family always did it, and I was shocked the first time I had pancakes at a friend's house and her mother thought it was gross when I asked for peanut butter. I still do it and always ask for it in restaurants - some wait staff stare dumbfounded, while others only nod knowingly.
My next older brother (Bro#3) used to make toasted sandwiches out of mixed together peanut butter and maple syrup. My younger brother and I loved these sandwiches and ate them at every opportunity. I ate so many of them that the thought of maple syrup and peanut butter together is still nauseating some 30 years later.
