Die-POD Filter: Any of youse haz an iPOD that won't shut down? [More:]

Lately my Classic isn't shutting off. I press the bottom button and it just pops the screen up again, and it's draining my battery.

Tell me your horror stories, earwhigs. Is this a common flaw?

Mine glitches pretty regularly. The "reset" button is the top of the circle + the middle button held down together for 5 seconds or so. You can give that a try.

What does that do, SR? I've never 'reset' anything before. Does it affect what's on your player at all?

Sometimes when mine has gotten stuck on, if I hook it up to the computer with the cord bit, it'll do the 'do not disconnect' screen and then after I take it off, I can do the top of the circle+middle button to turn off.

The 'reset' s_r refers to (full instructions here) doesn't erase stuff on the iPod, and it's the first thing you should try (after flipping the Hold switch a few times). There's a hard reset, or something, that does wipe the drive. I can't remember how to do that one, though.

It's more like "reboot" than it is "reset"--it doesn't hurt your music.

yup- reboot is what I meant.

Mine freezes about once a week or 10 days, and I have to reboot with the above method.

Also, I have the Nike + iPod sport kit, and after I crossed the 500K mark with it, a distance runner named Paula Something (who lives in my iPod with Lance Armstrong and a couple of other athletes) congratulated me. Ever since then, about every third or fourth run, Paula congratulates me on finishing another 500K. This is after like twelve miles of running, she'll do this. I have no intention of fixing the bug, because it's a woman with a British accent telling me that I'm totally badass.

all the f**king time. I do what SR suggests and it keeps me sane!

Mine used to freeze up for no apparent reason and the reset wouldn't work - I had to wait until the battery ran out and then charge it and it would start up normally. It turned out to be a bad connection from the main circuit board to the HDD, which is apparently common in my model (gen 4, I think).

But, yeah, try the reset and just don't think abut how you shouldn't have to do that with a modern piece of electronic equipment ;-)

I have certain albums that about halfway through inexplicably lock up the ipod (they haven't always been this way). Poor Wolf Parade doesn't get the love it should anymore.

If you have all of your music saved on one or various computers, you can do a hard reset from iTunes. But it WILL wipe the drive.

OH MAN!
I totally have the same problem, but with Interpol's first (and best, IMO) album. It could be some weirdness with the VBR settings; I'm going to rerip using the LAME encoder at a constant rate 192kbps and hopefully that will fix it.
