12 March 2008

Three-point midweek update [More:]

1. Another very windy day although it's dropping a little now. I got blown around a bit at North Chingford at lunchtime.

2. My voice-recognition dictation software is awesome. I blitzed the work today just by talking. How sweet is that!

3. I made roasted butternut squash soup and oatmeal/flax seed bread this afternoon. Both are delicious, with lots left over for the days ahead.
1. post-vacation-blahs
2. behind in the to-do list
3. lunch with a colleague at the wine bar where I shouldn't have wine because my office disapproves of that.

1. There are noisy protesters at work today. Makes it difficult to get to the bathroom.

2. I just bought baseball tickets.

3. I found a tv channel that shows WKRP in Cincinnati. I am happy.

1. Husband is in Pittsburgh, although I miss him, sleeping alone in our bed is luxurious.
2. Son is home sick from school.
3. Today I bought donuts for the first time in years. They are delicious.

1. I think I'm getting a UTI. I have a full gallon of cranberry juice with a straw in it that I am going to drink to see if I can stave it off.

2. I am correspondingly cranky.

3. Especially because one of my friends from Boston is in California this week at Esalen, and I was going to drive up to take a yoga class and hang out with her tomorrow.

1. Daily headache just kicked in.

2. Why do I get requests to review papers all at once? It only happens like, 3 or 4 times a year, and it always seems to be in the same month.

3. Will be at work late tonight, taking blood samples. Sigh.

1. Crabby about work and have been so all week.
2. Just had a delicious guacamole taco for lunch.
3. Tonight- ANTM at the gym! Yay!

1. I have only 2 lonely reels of film that need to be dealt with, but I can't do anything until I get another 25 to join them in a tray, which makes me a bit anxious.

2. I've found a public paper recycling bin less than 2 miles from my workplace. Goddamnit, we are going to get rid of this massive amount of cardboard come hell or high water.

3. The loading dock is a mess and is my next challenge here (aside from the mapping, which I can only do in short bursts since I tie up a lift and an aisle and well, it's fucking cold back there.)

1. Depressed
2. Coffee is getting cold
3. I've got the sniffles

1. I was listening to the new Mars Volta CD (Warning: sound; really loud sound.), but it's a little... DENSE this early in the morning. I'm pretty sure I like it, but hearing it all in one go is difficult.

2. I'm waiting for UPS to drop off the other case of wine I had shipped from CA. Ordinarily they'll just leave things at the door, but since there's alcohol involved they need the signature of someone over 21. That'd be me.

3. Once I've taken the wine down into the cellar - oh, alright, the basement - I have to go buy some shoes for work, as I'm tired of wearing SG's shoes that don't quite fit. I can't wait to get my old Docs back from the shoe repair shop.

1. Weirdly lucky financial day yesterday - found out about a housing grant I'm eligible for and the cel phone people gave me my credit without even an argument. Miracle.
2. Lot of stuff going on at work.
3. Teenagers are the spawn of Satan incarnate.

1. Coping with the breakup situation. It's day-to-day. Therapy sounds lovely right about now...

2. Now that I'm settled, it's time to look into some voice lessons. (Know anyone in L.A.?)

3. Cutting out refined sugar and sugar substitutes as part of my ongoing physical fine-tuning. This will be the huge challenge, I think.

1. Very productive and feeling on-top-of-everything at work, which is great (and rare).
2. Snacking on a huge carrot, which is delicious and sweet.
3. Sick of the wind. The five-minute walk to work is a chore, and all of the newly-risen daffodils have been flattened :(

1. I'll be in Erie PA this Saturday to register voters with the Buffalo for Obama group, and maybe next Saturday as well.

2. I'm annoyed as hell about this whole Spitzer thing.

3. the cafeteria had mac and cheese for lunch, one of the best things they make. mmmm....

Kelly, I know this place is slightly west of Erie, so might be out of your way a little, but it has great food and is in a beautiful setting, if you're looking for somewhere to eat.

mostly work-related.

1. applied for first touring job (concert production); dunno who the band is, haven't heard anything yet, am hell of nervous.
2. am increasingly displeased with current bookstore job.
3. booking for wedding I was shooting next week fell through.

1. Stuffy head. I've never had allergy symptoms before, so I'm feeling some mild outrage about it.

2. Someone I didn't know all that well, but who apparently considers me a close friend, was in town visiting this past weekend. This left me with lots of uncomfortable and incoherent thoughts about friendship and reciprocity.

3. I was up too late last night. I just got wrapped up in a fun project and regrettably didn't go to bed till 3:30.

BONUS QUESTION FOR MIKO: What's the second word of Women Drinking Whiskey? It sounds like Tellico -- could that be it?

1. I love my new Mac computer. It's awesome.

2. I hid two Dove solid chocolate bunnies for the kids' Easter baskets in the pantry. I just unwrapped one, bit the head off, and hid the evidence. Now I'll have to buy another bunny.

3. I think I'll do something productive now.

1// Made bread last night, and then ate a turkey sammich while it was still warm. It made me happy.

2// Woke up to a yard full of snow! This also makes me happy.

3// Saw a coworker bringing the Life section of the newspaper (compelte with the recipes and comics and crossword) into the restroom. The paper sits on the kitchen table where people eat lunch. I am very grossed out by this, and refuse to touch the paper and am contemplating finding another place to eat lunch.

1. I should eat, because I have class from 3:30 to 6pm, and if I don't eat, that won't be good, but I am really not at all hungry.

2. The "not hungry" thing is kind of a relief, because I've been in total "MUST EAT EVERYTHING NOW!" mode for quite some time and it was getting frightening.

3. I am so looking forward to spring break.

1. I am @#$@!!! SICK and it sucks. I don't want to breathe my germs or cough near my 17-day-old child, which makes it hard to care for him. But tonight the doula is coming at 10 pm and staying all night! That means a date to sleep in the same bed as my husband, and believe me, we really, really need the sleep.

2. must stop comparing self to much more organized people with similarly-aged babies. I have to think that eventually I will be out of "survival mode" with a newborn, and can at least try to structure some things into the day. But not this week, oh no.

3. currently caught up on thank-yous and announcements. Thank goodness. Things like that tend to prey on me until I finally get them done.

Ok, I read this and my eyes scrolled down to LoriFLA's name, and I briefly wondered how it was possible she had a baby without us knowing.

1. Department centennial newsletter that I was the editor for is now at the printers. Will get to us in time for next week's banquet.
2. The search is over, and we have a new department chair.
3. Because of 1) and 2) I am letting out a sigh of relief. Didn't know how stressful those were till they were over.

So you only have to put out a newsletter every hundred years?

Cool.

EJ, thanks for the rec. I mapquested it from where we'll be, and will recommend it to everyone. Decent prices, too!

(I love the internet. Where else can I get a resturant recommendation for a city two hours away from someone who lives on the other side of the world?)
