I willingly dove into a trainwreck over the weekend. . . I had been reading all the buzz about his movie all along
→[More:] and it had always intrigued me, especially since I grew up on the beach in So. Cal. So even with all the bad publicity, even with the fact that it went straight to dvd (at least in my market) and, even though the girl behind the counter at the video store tried to talk me out of renting it (I am not making this up), I rented it.
I can't honestly describe how bad this movie is. The concept is a noble one, I guess, but the dialogue, and the acting just sucks more than you can imagine. The story is incomprehensible. The fact that SMG, Amy Poehler, John Laroquette, Wallace Shawn, John Lovitz, and even Miranda Fucking Richardson were in it does not save it. . these characters are just not engrossing at all. It's like maybe some middle school kids get together and write some skits based on this material and put them on in someone's garage.
Then, after quitting about 2/3 of the way through, daughter suggests that we watch "the making of" section, and that makes everything worse, and all of these people are being so high concept and noble about this project and it's just CRAP. . .
(if anyone has seen it and loves it, it would be fun to compare notes. . .)
