This makes me sad...→[More:]...It really does. I want to buy them a boat - I really do, I just don't know how, or who to get in touch with to make this happen. Education is really important to me, and to see these kids risking their lives just to get an education just makes me want to cry.
I just sent BBC an email, and I also have a friend that works at BBC - I'll send him an email to see if he can help put me in touch with someone that can facilitate this.
A South African village is demanding that a bridge be built across a crocodile-infested river to stop children swimming it to get to school.
That just makes way too much sense to ever get done.
Isn't the WTO afraid this could result in a precedent allowing people all over to demand safe conditions for their children? Maybe Coca Cola gets water from the river for a bottling plant and is afraid a bridge would take .001% off its profits? Do these kids really need to go to school, anyway? That probably just decreases their likelihood becoming corporate slave labor. And doesn't the local government probably see child mortality as a remedy for overpopulation?
I mean, really, if it's good for people or animals or the environment, it's going to screw with somebody's commerce.
