Octothorpe, I was just thinking this morning that I'm feeling the same way. I was a total political junkie a few months ago; now as each primary comes and goes I just get more worried that the Dems are doing nothing but hurting each other.

Luckily we already had our primary in Illinois so I can avoid it if I want to.

The worst part is that it's going to be up to my state, PA

I'm with you, octothorpe. I'm in Iowa, so I was hearing about shit early, and although we're no longer important, it's still impossible to avoid coverage (despite my lack of a television). GAH. I just want to hibernate until, say, november 5th.

I was kind of hoping the nomination would be decided last night, just so some of the madness would end!

I was a complete political junkie at this time 4 years ago. That whole debacle left a really bad taste in my mouth. So bad, that I really don't give a fuck anymore and I have only been skimming the articles and blogs. I like both candidates. It would be awesome to have both on the same ticket but that won't happen because of stupid pride and possibly because of the things they said about each other in the run up to the nomination. Whoever gets the Dem nomination, will probably get my vote. However, don't underestimate the Dems ability to completely fuck this election up and lose like they did the last one.

I know what you mean, octothorpe. Just last weekend, I said to my friend, "I wish I could fall asleep and wake up in October, when we have a freaking candidate!"

Really, it's OK to turn off for a little bit. I didn't watch Daily Show or Colbert Report while the writers were on strike, and it was so liberating! I also turn off NPR sometimes, and ignore blogs that I know will get me riled up.

In my opinion, it's not really pride, but the fact that VP has been sort of a crappy job for the last 20 years or so. Why would we waste a fine senator who could contribute to the national political scene on a post that's almost ceremonial? Quayle was a laughing stock, Al Gore's accomplished more as an ex-VP than he did as a VP, and Cheney's turned the job into another cabinet post.

Augh, and I thought I was the only one. And my vote in primaries didn't even count.

Just keep reminding yourself that this is all a party. Whatever happens, in January everyone's gonna be jazzed that GWB's packing up to go clear brush in Crawford for the rest of his miserable life.

I have nothing against Hillary as a candidate and think she'd do as well as Obama in the Oval (with the possible exception of having more Republican bile to wade through to get the job done), but goddamn it I wanted her to go down in flames last night just so the whole primary thing could be over and done with. Hearing the results this morning while I was getting dressed made me grumpy as hell.

At this point, I just want Hillary to fuck off and die. Maybe if you transplanted her brain into another body, with a new face and a new name, she'd do fine, but as it is, given her national identity, she's nothing but a liability.

Another reason I want this primary to be over: so I can stop feeling guilty for supporting a candidate that I admire.

Muddgirl's right about the combined ticket approach, I think: both candidates are too talented to be VP and attend foreign funerals all day long. Not only that, they're both alpha dogs; they are both natural leaders who need to be able to lead without feeling a threat at the flank. In fact, I think if they united, the factionalism we've seen about the candidates among Dems would continue for the time they remained in office ("Well, if S/He were in charge, this wouldn't be happening").

I think they would both be excellent picks for one another's cabinets. Hillary would make an awesome Sec. of State or Atty. General. She could clean up FEMA and Homeland Security right quick. Obama would make an awesome Atty. Gen, Sec. of Health and Human Services, or HUD Secretary.
