Way to feel old! The American Girl dolls now have a couple of 1970s dolls: Julie and Ivy....[More:] I think she's totally into Girls' Lib and Title IX and everything. And I do remember envying her awesome footprint shag rug. Her lunchbox passes muster, but my mom would never let me have chips and cupcake in my lunch. More like apple and carrot sticks.
One of my coworkers has a rather profitable side gig making custom clothes for American Girl dolls. I can't wait to see what she comes up with for these two.

(It occurs to me that there's probably a Roe v Wade joke to be made, but I think I'll pass.)

Oh, good grief. I think I remember actually owning one of those footprint shag abominations.

I want Julie's bed.

I know, I think when I'm older they'll have a 90s doll, and my kids will be like, Mom, who's AC Slater? And I will weep bitterly.

TPS, who's AC Slater?

It's an air conditioning unit!
Can i make mad bank with couture doll clothes?

Mad bank is probably overstating it, but there seems to be some money out there. Especially if you enjoy sewing and would happily do it for free, which seems to be the case w/my coworker.

(Janie tells me that she sells a lot more stuff via Etsy than eBay--apparently the latter is what Stringer Bell would call a saturated market. She also does full-custom stuff for some of her longtime customers, working from photos to make a matching dress for the doll, that kind of thing.)

Wow, I was so obsessed with American Girls when I was a kid. You're right, TPS. It's gonna be weird when they have "American Girls: Jessica".

OMG box, I love that you got a Wire reference into an American Girl doll thread>/small>

gah, fucked up that one, didn't I?

She's got a pet bunny, and a Chinese best friend.
Hell, i want to be Julie and live in San Francisco in the seventies.

I wanted American Girl stuff when it first came out; too bad I was a teen already. I probably shouldn't say this but I could see myself playing with that stuff today.

My quibble is that her sister wouldn't have been wearing Miss Piggy jammies in 1975, since the Muppet Show didn't come along for another two years.

We had Ms. in the house, but I wasn't aware of Title IX until about junior high (1980-3).

The women who wrote the Kirsten, Kaya and Addy series have also written adult books.

I was born in 1975 and spent the latter part of the seventies running around in a Cindy Brady hairstyle. I was a (strawberry) blond back in those days too. I reproach my mother bitterly to this day. She claims ALL the little girls had those ringlets in those days and it looked cute.

"Born in 1973". Good grief. That was an honest typo, I assure you. I always said I'd never lie about my age.
