This is a Gloom and Doom thread [More:]So, I've got this weird growth right next to the inside corner of my eye. It showed up around Christmas time and it's growing fast. My appointment with the Dermatologist is still a couple of weeks away, leaving time for anxiety buildup. I'm no doctor, but it's position will probably make it a bitch to remove. Other people in my family have had skin cancer, so it has a good chance of being tumor-ific. My depressive tendencies are thus reinforced and friction with co-workers is only adding to the fun.

How are you?
Well, until about twenty seconds ago, I was feeling sorry for myself because I have a headache. I really can't complain.

I hope it turns out to be nothing much, K of P, and I send to you the warmest, most soothing whuffles I've got.

Ouch. Eye-things are squicky. Hope it turns out ok.

I would think that if the dermatologist thought there was anything remotely scary going on, they'd have gotten you in to see you, like, immediately. not that I'm any expert, mind, just sayin'.

I don't have much doom or gloom to report, just a mild case of seasonal allergic rhinitis, the boring everyday mope of the mister's education expenditure causing us to temporarily lack entertainment funds, and some eye-glazingly pedantic data scrub tedium at work.

oh and there's the part where I pinched my thumb in a drawer this morning, and now it's now got an unsightly and extremely painful blood blister on it that I've been trying all day to ignore / not pick at / not rupture. OW! fuckityfuck.

but that's all trivial compared, yanno.

I feel you, King, I do. You just have to get through it, and as trite and simplistic as that may sound, no truer words are spoken. You just have to get through it. It probably will suck ten times worse than it does today, but that suckage, it too shall pass.
A month ago I lost sight in my left eye, and the day that it went, until I got a firm diagnosis were some of the most troublesome days of my life. My sight still hasn't returned, but at least I know why, and the simple fact of knowing is often a comfort in itself. I am sorry that you have to wait, and your mind has time to spin you into a tizzy. I would caution you to not delve too deeply into Pubmed articles or even research your symptoms on the internet, you are only bound to freak yourself out even more. Just remember that it is temporary, and you will get through it. Much luck and I will send positive vibes your way.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I'm not really freaking out about it, I just hate the uncertainty. Today is just an unpleasant day, and that tends to make me think of unpleasant things. Not so long ago, my mother had to have most of her upper lip removed and reconstructed due to a tumor, so even though whatever it is is unlikely to be what she had (slow growing), that tends to stick in your mind. Mine may just be a cyst or something, whatever it is, it's not a zit, or a wart, or a mole, so you tend to wonder, "just what the heck is this?" and that sucks.

msali, you sound like you have had it much worse than I, is there a decent chance that your sight will return? For what it's worth, you've got my best wishes.

((((KoP))))

In high school, my left eyelid swelled up so big I couldn't see anything. I was sure it was something terrible, like elephantitis - turns out, it was seasonal allergies. Not to say that you don't have a face tumor, but there you go.

Have you tried warm compresses? They may not help, but doing something is better than sitting around waiting for your appointment. I usually just run a dishcloth under the hottest water my faucet can produce, then hold it to the spot until it gets cold. Twice a day or so.

My dad had something like that when I was a kid. He got it removed and that was that.

Probably just one of those weird little things people get. But I can understand why you'd be nervous about it. Don't blame ya a bit.
