Funk's death trip: a really interesting article about Funkadelic's 1971 album Maggot Brain(YouTube audio of title track). [More:]The author argues that George Clinton and Co. "...captured the odor of the age, the stench of death and corruption, the weary exhalation of America at its lowest. And it smelled very, very funky."

When I was a teenager digging around in record stores in the 1980s, that album cover was always sorta startling to me.
I always thought of Let's Take it to the Stage as Funkadelic's death-funk album. Some seriously heavy voodoo sounds going on on that disc - especially No Head, No Backstage Pass.

Amazing, amazing, amazing guitar work by Eddie Hazel on the title track. One of my favorite albums.

Hit It And Quit It is one of the greatest singles ever.

I love George Clinton - Funkadelic is the finest kind.

I grew up in a northern town with a total of maybe five black folks living there. In grade six I discovered Clinton/Funkadelic/Pfunk and just no one got it. Everyone, friends and adults thought I was nuts. Even the hippies.

I still love this stuff.

Classic album that I still listen to. Can You Get To That? has always been a favorite of mine.

Ween recorded a song called "A Tear For Eddie" that is a tribute to Eddie Hazel. Its on Chocolate and Cheese.

I never realized what the Ween song was about, Sailormom... thank you!
