Three Point Status Update! [More:]

1. Went off the meds last week thinking (mistakenly) that I didn't NEED them anymore. Big mistake.

2. Spent the rest of the week gradually sinking into a depression.

3. Ditched the idea of "I am in control" and started taking the pills yesterday. Feel much much better now.
Oh, man. I hear that. What kind of meds?

1. in my own depressive tailspin late this week. Climbing out. Very. slowly.

2. BFF is coming Wednesday! Haven't seen her for almost a year. Yipee!

3. So far, the kids haven't killed each other. The day is still young.

2. First local Burning Man party of the year next weekend. Yeah!!
3. Picking up my bicycle from the shop today after my big accident. Reunited!

(yah, you are in control. going off meds is brutal. I tried last fall and was too stubborn to go back on until I was in a major depression. Oops.)

1) Annoyed with my mother, who is coming to visit. Long story short, she booked the flight without double checking with me, and I won't even be available for 1/2 the time she'll be here. Also, she emailed me last night saying she and my stepdad had an agenda for coming. They want to "find me a house" to buy. On the face of it, no biggie, right? But what that means to me is being dragged around to places that are way too expensive, being subjected to criticism about what my needs in a house are versus theirs, and basically having a terrible time. I'm not even entirely ready to get a house!

2) Crocheting a handbag for a friend for her birthday. It's purple and I plan to felt it. Am slightly confused by two incidents in the last two weeks wherein I was crocheting and came into contact with a man who immediately recognized I was crocheting and talked about how he used to do that, too. Incident #1: the cousin of a girl whose sweet 16 party I was at in a church basement. Age: roughly 30. Incident #2: random guy in a park where I was killing some time before going to a friend's house. He was there with a passel of kids. Age: 49. Crocheting is way less common than knitting, men don't typically do either. In addition, both men were african american--I have no idea if that plays into this very small pattern or not. Anyway, it makes me want to research men and fiber arts to see whether I just had a very random two weeks or whether this is more common than I ever would have imagined.

3) It's gorgeous outside, and I'm at loose ends. I have no plans either today or tomorrow. I hope I don't fritter the weekend away.

That's all!

(ha! am wordy!)

Yay for spring!

lysdexic, it's for Cyclothymia, a minor form of Bipolar disorder. The meds are great, but they make me run to the bathroom every hour. Sigh.

1. I have confirmed reservations for hostels in Genoa, Florence, Venice and Bolzano.
2. I am well into the basics of learning bluegrass and fingerpicking styles of guitar. This includes my own rearrangement of CCR's Bad Moon Rising for fingerpicking.
3. I started the last cycle of conditioning some new NiMH rechargeable batteries for my digital camera.

Still recovering from last weekend's flu. Implications:

1. Sleeping 9 to 11 hours a night instead of 5 to 7. I no longer have time to do anything.

2. After 9 weeks I am back at my target weight. This feels like cheating.

3. I feel even clumsier than usual. Just dropped a full bottle of beer in the kitchen and it took ages to clean up the mess.

1. Want hadjiboy to post in RB's "heritage" thread. Know he's in India, and that must be as diverse a place as anywhere else.

2. Up early Sat. morning as usual. . a strong, silent home made latte at my side. Reading news, etc.

3. House next door is vacant. Neighbors moved back to CA, and a co worker is interested in buying it before they put it on the market. I would get a "finders fee" for helping avoid a realtor. Wife thinks that 1K is the max we sould ask for but I think 2K because college next year, and a realtor's cut would be 12K at least. Co worker and I have both decided that being neighbors is not an issue, and his gf is a kiwi, so I would get to hear hear charming accent.

1. I had a walk along the South Bank of the Thames today, which was great.

2. But on the train home some arsehole had stuck chewing gum all along the seat in such a way that I didn't know until I'd sat down and it got stuck to the back of my jeans. Disgusting. Absolutely fucking disgusting. It made me heave trying to extricate myself from the seat with all these strings of gum attached to me. Bleagh! (But thanks to Mangers Goo Remover I got it off and the jeans are now in the washing machine.)

3. I'm going to a friend's house for an early dinner but she wants to go to a St Patrick's dance tonight (an AA party) which I really Do Not Want. I get very socially anxious about dances.

1. I am closely monitoring the weather, because despite the current beauty of the day (Stewriffic and I live with the same gorgeous weather - hey Stew!), my husband is flying home from Pittsburgh this afternoon, and his arrival may coincide with what could be a nasty storm.

2. I am finishing up some housework that I neglected over the week.

3. ACC basketball tournament time/March Madness, is pretty much like Mardi Gras for this part of the country. There is a very festive atmosphere around Chapel Hill these days, since our beloved Tar Heels are number one. Go Heels!

1. I'm back from my trip, and finally got my computer out of hock (goddamn broker's fee just to get *my* computer over the border--mailing it to myself cost more than I should have made for the editing work, if I hadn't been grossly overpaid by my generous and happy uncle). Post and photos to follow.

1a. Happy to be back online with y'all. I missed you.

2. Never getting that guy to house-sit again. He lost Chicken-Leg Al for a month, and took 3 weeks to call my friend the local cat rescue lady in spite of the fact that I left her number on the fridge with instructions to call if *anything* went wrong with the cats, (It took her two phone calls to find him, and he's back home now.), left me with no coffee, no toilet paper (rumour has it he was even going to take the roll from the dispenser before someone stopped him), precious little firewood, dying batteries in my flashlight (not unrelated to the apparently broken lamp in my bedroom), a mysteriously disfigured article of clothing (no, I'm not going into details, it's waaaay too creepy), and would've left me with a filth pit to clean up had a friend from Vancouver not shown up and cracked the whip before I came home.

3. Working! Wheeee!

Oh, and 2a. I am never ever ever ever ever flying with the airline named after the word for large land mass again. I'm *still* having nightmares about missed flights. (Srsly--last night's involved some sort of Lovecraft-esque necropolis and a struggle with a malevolent immortal being who worked for said airline and his golem just to check in for my flight.) Now that I have my confuser back, they are also getting a very nasty letter.

essex, at least it wasn't a flying glob of mucous some punk kid hawked at you through your school bus window. Seventh grade, on my way home from school, leisurely sitting by the window, which is fully open, with my head half way out, enjoying the breeze on a hot Arabian day, and what happens next--two Arab kids, who must've been no older than six or seven, come running up to the window, and spit right in my face. And I'm not talking about any ordinary spit--these guys were loaded. As if the first hit wasn't bad enough, I was so stunned that I didn't even see the second one coming. Sheesh. They got me good, and then had the nerve to come around for a second shot. The buggers.

Just sat there in silence until I reached home, the spit was thankfully on my head, in my hair, so it wasn't noticeable, although I did see my driver look in the rear view mirror as all of this was playing out, so kind of felt embarrassed a bit. Reached home, went straight to the bathroom, and put my hand on it. Disgusting. Then, for some strange reason which I can't quite comprehend now, decided to bring my hand close to my nose, and smell it. Almost lost my lunch, the damn thing smelled of toilet--complete shit.

Took bath, scrubbed scrubbed scrubbed, but somehow still didn't seem enough.

1. We got snow again last night.
2. Not much, though, and it's melting.
3. I'm going to pick up some rotten hay bales from down the road 30 miles today. Why would I drive 30 miles to pick up rotten hay bales? Because there's a great method of growing root crops that consists of building a raised bed of 1x8s to hold dirt above rotting hay bales. The plants germinate in the 7" of soil in the raised bed, roots grow into the hay straight, and I don't have to worry about planting in Missouri Clay.

1. I am getting cable installed today! This is the first time in over five years I've had a tv or cable, so it'll be like having access to a whole new world.

2. Embarking on a major housecleaning project this afternoon while I'm waiting for the cable guy.

3. The bf is coming home late Monday night...I get to see him Tuesday after work. He called from Michigan last night and really likes it there. One girl asked him why he was even considering Michigan if he got into Berkeley, and I agree with her, and hope he chooses Berkeley.

PS: hadjiboy, I have done that more times than I can count, and each time with the same disastrous results (I have double depression -- dysthymia with occasional major depressive episodes). I have come to realize that "in control" means "doing what I need to do to function" -- i.e., take my meds. Otherwise, the depression is in control.

1. About four o'clock this morning, thunderstorms rolled through. Lightning sizzled, thunder boomed, and I got up to watch the Weather Channel. It all blew over quickly, and some big branches fell down in the yard, but the storm did no real damage. Based on nothing more than a hunch, I'm predicting a bad tornado season for the Southeast this year.

2. I just got a Pownce account and I'm not sure why or what I'm going to do with it. Anyone use Pownce? If so, what for? Can I use it to post to my lame-ass Blogger blog? Why do I need a microblog when I never update my other blog? Why do I let my techno-savvy friends talk me into shit like this? What's it all about, Alfie?

3. I need to go to the store for Pop-Tarts and lettuce and cat litter. To make my famous Pop-Tart/lettuce/cat litter casserole, of course.

*Waves at elizard* Welcome back!

1. I feel good about getting some stuff out of my brain, but of course, getting it out doesn't help me solve the problems that it was related to.

2. I'm feeling very tired today.

3. Mom wants to go out today, but I know that will probably lead to arguments and guilt trips depending on what I decide to do. Lesser of two evils and the like.

That's exactly what I'm dreading when the 'rents come to visit at the end of the month. The fantastic: they're giving me a 20% downpayment on a house (OMG!) The bad: they'll try to control the details: where and what house I choose, where to finance it, how to finance it, etc. And she will also try to get me to buy a bigger/more expensive house than I need or can afford. Hmmm...it's not a hard choice. I'll deal with the pushiness (and pick my own or choose not to buy at all). Even though it's stressful and no fun, it's worth it in the long run!

1. Boyfriend has a cold. Poor baby. (Weirdly/amazingly, I've only had a couple of colds in the past three years, as opposed to the multiple colds I'd get every year. I credit the fact that when I had my jaws broken and reset, my surgeon took out my sinus polyps while he was in there.)

2. Landlord is coming over to inspect the damage brought on by the pickaxe that went through a pipe in the front yard, courtesy of his stupid plan to rip out all the grass and replace it with brick.

3. Working on yet another essay for the infernally endless book I'm editing on the history of contemporary art in East and West Germany; during breaks I intend to plan a little vacation for April (probably SF/Napa Valley, but I'm tempted to go to Chicago).

And about myself losing my mind due to living with older foster kid (who is very sweet but imagine living with a really really lazy and messy raccoon for two years). Please keep fingers crossed for us to get a green light from transitional housing program.

2. Due to number one, I am a bit depressed. (I'm on meds that keep the periodic depression pretty modest and non-debilitating -- yay! for finding a med that works -- I've been on the same med for 12 years and have no interest in ever going off.)

2. Slept in and have been productive thus far today- gym, nails, sushi for lunch, bought a new laundry hamper, have decided we may go to Vermont for our two year anniversary in May.

1. BF is currently trying to fix the front door where the completely weird ass overkill pull it closed thingie broke. Yay BF!

2. Went to my housing class which was a tour of houses today; went to one house, which was horrible and still way over what I can afford; got depressed, didn't go to rest of houses (also, pouring rain, also, they were all nowhere near anywhere I want to live); then, just heard from friend about yet another low income housing grant I might could get which might, just might, put me into serious contention like I could actually buy a house. The housing roller coaster is getting to me a bit and I still don't know if I have a way too soon deadline to move when my lease ends June 1 or if my landlord will let me go month to month or if any bank will actually lend me enough money given my small income, imperfect credit and the cost of housing.

3. About to go meet a friend for drinks. Not totally enthused but it's pouring rain as it has been all day and the bar will be warmer and cozier than my house. Sigh.
