Ugh, he uses dumb quotes.

Mamet makes me sad. He tortures himself with this insane logic because, let's be clear, he's a Jew who feels emotionally about Israel. That's fine, I understand that. I'm a Jew who has a not very rational, and somewhat visceral relationship with the idea of Israel. But why the torturous mind games to back up and pretend like you've been leaning farther and farther right anyway, and hey, your Zionism just happens to fit into that world-view?

David Mamet, it's okay to be left-leaning and also like Israel. You can disagree with members from your side about issues. It's allowed. Please stop going insane, it's scaring us.

Golly. That reads like the work of a self-involved college sophomore.

He had evidently never bothered to think about things, then he thought about them, and realized he hadn't really thought about things before. Rather than giving up mythmaking, he has adopted a countervailing form of mythmaking, this time about Kennedy.

If, as a conservative, you've never considered intelligent conservative ideas, you will be relatively easily persuaded by unintelligent liberal ideas, if you get it into your head that they should be grappled with.

I can accept the fact that I won't write any plays worth reading. Here's hoping Mamet will come to accept that he will never write anything worth reading about politics.

I was expecting Rebecca Pidgeon to pop up at the end and tell me I had actually just read a Bill Kristol essay and that my wallet had been stolen.

mullacc: HA! That would have made it so much more entertaining.

When has anything written by Mamet been entertaining? Not to me. At least now I can ignore him with a clear(er) conscience. There's a special place in Idiotland for people who become Born-Again Libertarian Capitalist US-Constitution-Idolizers now, when the systems they have fallen in love with are failing and the Grand Promises are being turned into Big Lies. But then, Mamet has years of success behind him and probably just needs his own justification for joining the Greedy Bastard Club.
