04 March 2008

This woman is my new inspiration. Video here and here.
[More:]
When I first came across her website I thought it was going to be another 'gastric band' story but she's done it all through exercise, eating properly and a change in attitude.

She's around the same height/build as me, although I'm somewhat softer and chunkier than her, but I am inspired by her to up my training and get rid of that last 15-20lbs.
That is inspiring (though the implants make me a bit sad). Nevermind.

The implants are understandable. If she's lost that much weight, I expect her tits were pretty saggy and beyond help by themselves. But they are a bit too big for her frame.

She looks great and I don't begrudge her the implants. But I am curious about her skin. Did it all spring back or did she have it removed?

So she went from morbidly obese chav to musclebound chav. Good for her.

Wow, impressive (even if the final result is a bit plasticky-looking for me).

I'm trying to shrug off a stubborn 10 or so lbs and I've lost 6 so far, and just that little bit makes me realize what an incredible journey that must have been. Eating right/less and exercising is HARD WORK.

I don't think the implants are anything out of line. They're what- a D cup?
posted by small_ruminant 04 March | 15:24
And what DID she do with all her skin? I lost 50 pounds and MY skin feels loose to me. I have no idea what people who lose more than that do.
posted by small_ruminant 04 March | 15:25
Skin should be rather elastic, and spring back over time. Right? Right???

Only when you're young, unfortunately. Haven't you ever watched Extreme Makeover? So much excess gut on that show - it's unbelievable. One woman had 11 lbs excess skin removed from just her lower stomach.

Step away from the cheeseburger peroxide.

I tore the meniscus on the back of my right knee while doing kettlebell exercises a couple of months ago (I was twisting from side to side with them when it happened), so now I can't jog or walk for exercise, which totally totally totally sucks. It can't repair itself and the only way to fix it is surgery, which I'm dreading and delaying. I should get an exercise bike or something.

Some of the shows I've watched (yeah, I admit it) the patients have all these hanging folds of loose skin, in part because they've had gastic bypasses and lost large amounts of weight really quickly. The skin never had time to, erm, follow along what should have really been a process of a couple of years.

A few years back I went on a gym spree and lost 25 pounds over about five months. The skin adjusted fine.

No. No way. I'm a D cup. Those are huuuuge. (Granted, her ribcage is probably much larger around that mine is, which means a D cup on her would be bigger boobies than my Ds for sure, but for her frame, those are some biiiiiig boobies.)

That said, good for her, and I wish I had half the muscles in my arms.

I belong to a Gold's. You can't wipe your ass in that place without seeing her picture.
posted by danostuporstar 04 March | 16:26
So she's kind of like the Jared for Gold's Gym?
posted by gaspode 04 March | 16:27
Thanks jokeefe. I'm at the beginning stages of losing 25-30 pounds, and I do not want to have surgery to fix some skin. I'm relatively confident that losing weight slowly won't cause that excess skin, the way losing 80 pounds in a few months would.
posted by muddgirl 04 March | 16:33
Sounds about right, gaspode. (essexjan, I didn't mean to be negative, just didn't expect to see her outside of the context I usually see her in.)
posted by danostuporstar 04 March | 16:34
I don't think anyone would create flubs of excess skin just losing 20-30 lbs.

Unless you were, like....90 years old. Maybe.
posted by iconomy 04 March | 16:36
I'm generally anti-implant, because I think it's usually done for the wrong reasons and sets a not-entirely-good body image example for young girls, but anyone who put that much hard work into completely overhauling her lifestyle and resculpting her body the hard way can have whatever tits she wants, as far as I'm concerned. Heck, add an extra one if you like -- you've earned it. (Also what essexjan said.)

Just saying...

Jan vs him upstairs: FITE!

i keep trying to think of ways to help get rid of the pimp upstairs, but (esp. not knowing the law there) the ideas just get more and more outlandish and old school Mission Impossible.
i think we should have a short story contest called "The Pimp Upstairs" and all brainstorm.

I'd win against that chain-smoking, junk-food-eating, non-exercising, red-faced, unhealthy shitbag any day cillit, even at my least fit.

we will all vouch you were online, when he assaulted you and you defended yourself, at the inquest.

Yeah, probably not. But, there's tons of extra skin there than when I was 30 lbs lighter. Where does it go? Will my body like, absorb it or something?
posted by muddgirl 04 March | 17:08
Skin can be surprisingly elastic - especially when younger. The key seems to be slower weightloss + muscle toning + lots and lots of birch oil/cocoa butter. Or whatever creams you dig. I hear caffeine based creams and shower gels help tone skin a lot too (I did use some myself, Biotherme or whatever that brand is called, for a while and noticed a difference but wehey, expensive!)

This woman from the same show was very inspiring.

My links are messed up, sorry. You can scroll through on the Oprah site.

No, my daughter can't live this way. I can't let her go through life being made fun of.'

So nice to hear her say that.

Thank you for the links LoriFLA.

I'm trying to lose some weight myself.

who isn't?
...and skin, it depends on the age at which you lose it and your genetics.
I lost a lot of weight three years ago (almost exactly 100lbs), have mostly kept it off, with no real problems with skin. Hell, yes I'd like a tighter tummy and pert boobs but that's totally consistent with having babies and feedin' 'em!
