HEY, BUYERS: ALL ABOARD! Foreclosure Express buses customers through areas where houses can be had at a bargain price
I would so joyride with that bus.
No, I'm not in the market, and yes it's sad that people are loosing their homes. I was in the market to buy when Denmark's prices skyrocketed by the minute and after many stressful months of looking and not daring, we chose to buy in Malmö, Sweden instead, joining the prices right before they went up and have thus - *phew* - not lost value here (also we bought a fixer upper that is still not quite fixed). Unlike pals in Denmark who can't afford to split up or divorce because their fancy apartment lost half it's value and their loans are worth more that their house now. Eep!
Back to joyriding, I developed a habit when we were looking to shop around on websites for good houses/apartments and I can't seem to snap out of it. I love looking at for sale ads and pictures of the homes and daydreaming about how I will fix it. I can't shake this habit. It's a gateway drug to the Foreclosure Express bus, I'm sure.
As with most things Vegas, the reality is not always what meets the eye. Vegas is a very transient town and that includes "home"owners. Many foreclosures there are due to investors who sought to flip the house and then could not even rent it. Others are due to gamblers lured by the poker craze and who subsequently busted out. Look at those prices listed in the article; these are not homes bought by schoolteachers. These are lite McMansions built by speculators who drove real estate prices in the valley through the roof. $100,000 today buys an 600 sq foot condo built 15 to 20 years ago.

I did the same thing the last time I was looking for an apartment. Even after I had moved all my stuff in, I still kept surfing the web, looking for apartments, etc.
