17 March 2008

I want this house. I mean, c'mon, it has "an entrance staircase that retracts with the push of a button"![More:] My brother and his family live within about 15 miles of this house, but I've never seen it. Gotta work on that.

A few pics of the house on Flickr.
OMG! LUUURVE!

You and me in a bidding war BP, unless we can go all hippie-like and share it. :) I don't take up too much space but have cats. WIll have to get the cat a rocket-pack so he can fly outside I guess.

Dang, no photos from the interior anywhere?

We have cats, too- we'll pool our resources to build a modular CatPod that attaches to the outside of the house, like a shuttle. The cats can sun themselves on it while it orbits the house on rails.

Imagine looking out the kitchen window as a pod full of cats drifts lazily by.

When I was a kid, I always thought the future would be more like that.

Some interior images on the (closed) ebay listing for it.

Oh man, I love the interior shots. Thanks, octothorpe.

awesome! checkered kitchen floors and pod-cats orbiting the building! We're gonna be roomies BP, I'm getting my cash out of the bank right now!

Wow. But this gives me pause:

...the current owner has had the property only four months and didn't want to comment.

Could it be that it's haunted? By space aliens?!?!?!? (And your catpod idea is sheer genius, BP)

At the risk of sounding all jfrancis-y (see here), I saw this yesterday and almost sent it to you. I can't view your link in the office, but the video I saw of the house had interior shots and is on YT.

Video! Excellent. I'm saving that to watch on my lunch break. Thanks, ej!

I wonder if it sold?
posted by BoringPostcards 17 March | 10:45
I couldn't wait till lunchtime to watch, so I see it DID sell!

Wow, the place needs some attention, it appears. New decking on the porch, lose the country-ish furniture and the old kitchen cabinets, replace it all with chrome, glass, and plastic.

I hope the new owner has an IKEA credit card. That's the kind of furniture you need in a place like that.

Good lord, no. Classic 60s modernist, preferably original, or maybe Bauhaus.

Does Troy McClure live there?

I dunno BP. . a litter box in zero gravity? Doesn't pencil out for me.

It was marketed at $184,000 and sold for $135,000 to a woman from Cincinnati.

It's not worth it if it doesn't come with a bubble jet mobile that turns into a briefcase.

How are the hovering capabilities? Does it go 0-lightspeed in 60 seconds? Is it hydrogen-fuel efficient? What about cornering?

Yes - and what on earth are they doing with square beds in a round house when there are round beds!?

That bathtub is cool though.
posted by essexjan 17 March | 14:48
Oh yes, but it needs a new sink, the 70's one they have doesn't go with the flow!
posted by dabitch 17 March | 15:17
This was in our paper the other day - it looks mega cool from the outside (if a little rough around the edges), but all those tiny windows must make it pretty dark. Looove the staircase, though.

This is just down the road from George's farm and I've been past it scores of times. I wish it would be restored.
posted by essexjan 17 March | 16:28
Jan, that is awesome! Who cares how "uselessly bizarre" it is when it looks that cool?
posted by dg 17 March | 17:00
Restore, hell, I want to squat in it.
