20 March 2008

Serious lack of motivation It's a day before a holiday. I have no meetings or other engagements. I'm the most senior staff member at work today. Nobody knows when I'm in the office and when I'm not. I'm sorely tempted to just go home. But I'll stick it out.

Maybe I just need to make a list.

How are the rest of y'all coping today? Is Friday a day off work for the rest of you?
Friday is not a day off work for me although some people will leave early. I work at a Jewish institution, so they are not so big on the whole Easter thing.

I'm working at home today though, because I had a dental appointment this morning. My teeth! They are so clean!

I'm with ya, totally. It's been a rough two weeks, motivation wise. And now a lot of the projects I'm working on are tied up on other peoples' desks.

We do get a holiday on Friday (we get market holidays), but I don't know if I'm going to take it or not. We'll see how I feel at the end of... today! Oh right, today is Thursday!

I wish tomorrow were a holiday for me. I've got to complete a translation of the bylaws for a Guatemalan company by Saturday morning. Saturday morning! Law firms have no souls. My motivation is low, but I am hammering away, because the more I get done today, the less I have to do tomorrow and Saturday.
Both my man and I really want to go out and DO something tonight, but we can't go out and rage and have fun unless most of our work stuff is done. More motivation, I guess.

Tomorrow's not a holiday for me, but I took it off for an eye doctor appointment. Today's actually a little busy for me at work, though, so the day is passing quickly.

I wish we got Friday off. I work for a certain large seller of books and such (sorta rhymes with Mordor's Hooks) and, well, we're having an interesting day today, what with the company officially being offered for sale and all. A recovery/cooling off day would be nice.

Working tomorrow and Saturday, but I've been off work for the last couple of days so that's okay.

No holidays where I am. And, I'm also low on the motivation right now.

Seriously demotivated too. I'm going to regret not getting this stuff done today, but it's fiddly and complicated and my head's all over the place.

The mister has both Friday and Monday off, yay!

When I worked for a S&L, we did not have any Easter holidays.

Friday is always a day off for me, but we don't get the Monday as a holiday here. (But everyone is on spring break and therefore, it's been pretty dull around here for the past week or so.)

Yesterday as a meeting ended, our visitors from Atlanta suggested a follow up conference call for Monday, because they were busy today and Friday was a Holiday.

"Which holiday is that?" I said, thinking it was "Georgia Day" or something.

I am a heathen and I will be working tomorrow.

Unmotivated as heck, with students who are even less motivated, given it's two days before Spring Break. I have only half a day tomorrow, thank goodness. Then BREAKTIME!

We have a holiday on Monday, thank the bunny god or whatever. So I'm leaving after work tomorrow to go see my sweetie and I get to stay until Monday morning instead of having to drive 4 1/2 hours home on Sunday after only being there 36 hours or so. Hurrah! This long distance relationship thing is beginning to get on my nerves bigtime. Oh, and I'm rarely if ever motivated at work, so, uh, whatever. Actually, come to think of it, yipes, I have a deadline today.
posted by mygothlaundry 20 March | 10:46
Wait, it isn't "Georgia Day"? Guess I'll return all those peaches.

I have today off, because it's spring break at my internship site. But I'm working tomorrow. And I've got ninety-eleven things I need to get done today, so I'm trying to build up enough caffeine in my system to zip through.

I should make a list. Lists motivate me, too.

Yikes. Maybe I shouldn't have made a list. Now I'm demoralized.

I'm so scattered I'd forgotten I'd even posted this. I didn't know I had the day off tomorrow until I got an all-staff email about it a couple of weeks ago. I'm not going to complain about it, but I don't understand why people here get certain Christian holidays off.

Ah well, I'm going to an equinox party. There will be a bonfire. So it's all good.

I do not have Friday off, but I have taken Monday off to make up for all of the over-working I've done the last few weeks.
posted by rhapsodie 20 March | 11:35
I left work early. Tomorrow and Monday are holidays, but I'm working for a few hours tomorrow afternoon but it's on double time, and I'm supporting a mum and month-old baby so it's all good. I've brought some other work home too but it's making social stories, a positive reinforcement program and a few other resources for a service user who assaulted a staff member two weeks ago. Making developmental resources is one of my favourite parts of my job, and doesn't take me very long and even less time when I'm at home as my computer here is faster.

I also plan to have a few drinks with some friends, which I haven't done for a while (drink, I mean), to see in the spring, and repot my poor fig trees (who keep getting blown over in the wind and the pots cracking). Right now though, I'm going to watch the Little House on the Prairie episode where poor Sylvia gets raped by the mime. I've not seen it before.

Something's wrong with me. I'm distracted, disorganized, and unfocused. Work is intense right now, and I'm fed up with it. There are too many concurrent projects and too many deadlines too close together, and as soon as I complete one task I turn to find someone else impatient with me because I'm late on the next. I'm a good juggler, but this is beyond my ability. And it's causing me to shut off the part of me that cares about work. I'm just slogging, and it's a drag, and it means I don't look forward to going into work and am not in a good space while I'm here.

There are no days off for Easter. I'm going to be living here night and day with a couple of exceptions until the first weekend in May. I'm not feeling good.

Friday is an office holiday, but since I'm not Christian, I'm coming in. In trade, I'm taking a day off later in the year to go to my own church's annual conference as a sort of "floating spiritual holiday."
posted by mykescipark 20 March | 12:26
What are these "holly days" you people keep referring to? Whatever they are, I don't get 'em. (Well, except Georgia Day, of course, but that's not for another month.) Consequently, I am neither more nor less motivated than I usually am.
posted by bmarkey 20 March | 12:29
bmarkey, Sunday is Easter, Friday is Good Friday.
posted by occhiblu 20 March | 12:32
Oh yeah, I always forget about Good Friday. We never get holidays off, anyway - Xmas, Easter, 4th of July, New Year's, Memorial Day, Labor Day (that one always rankles), St. Swithin's Day, whatever. No time off in healthcare.)
posted by bmarkey 20 March | 12:38
I have Friday and Monday off, and since the city will be shut down for four days, I will get drunk and gorge myself. Just like the Catholic Church intended.

Woo! I finished putting away about five loads of laundry. Which was a major psychological hurdle to getting the rest of everything done. Yay!
posted by occhiblu 20 March | 13:01
Woo, occhi. Laundry is my worst thing. Five loads put away is an accomplishment!

I worked this morning, 6:30 to 11:30, my usual hours on Thursday. Tomorrow our department is closing two hours earlier than usual. I'm working for a coworker tomorrow so she can have a three day weekend.

Saturday we are closed. Saturday is the Sabbath for the Seventh Day Adventists. Our department is usually open on Saturday mornings, but not this Saturday. I rarely work a Saturday, but it's good for the people that do.

Friday, yes. And I called in today to make it a four day weekend. Needed a break from screeching teenagers. Desperately. Very unmotivated workwise, both work work and my own projects work. All I want is a nap.

Yeah, I have a complete mental block against putting laundry away. I feel totally stupid about it, because I send it out to be washed and folded (I have no washing machine in the building, and no car to drive it to a laundromat, and by the time I get around to carrying it there it's heavy enough that I can't actually carry it the two blocks down the hill, so...), and *all* I have to do is put the damned stuff away, but I just... don't.

Except for today. Yay! And the bedroom and study are dusted and vacuumed! Now I'm off to clean the bathroom! Woo!
