In which I break the rules... I said this. But now I want you to look at this message from Nickyskye via mefi projects. Many of you know and care about Nicky, and will want to see this if you haven't. please read on →[More:]

Sorry that I'm being inconsistent, but I always intended to have a measure of flexibility in this; I didn't want a gift-y culture to develop here in which people would feel pressure to buy things for other members, and I didn't want somebody coming along and thinking, "oh look at all the touchy-feely bunnyschmucks - I bet they'd be an easy mark for a sob story."

I still feel this way, but I also feel there's a sweet spot for doing good - and at the moment the only filter I have for that is my own judgment, though if we wanted to organize something much more member-driven to evaluate cases, I'd be pleased, and have some ideas we could discuss.

No excuses needed taz, I think we know enough about nickyskye to know this is the real deal, and worth contributing to. I put in $25 and my income is in the bottom percentile of MeChazens, so I ~~doubledogdare~~challenge everyone to match it. I'm feeling way too lucky right now, living quite comfortably on very little money, but I know if one of my various chronic medical conditions turns acute, it will NOT wendell (and that is NOT foreshadowing for a future Save the Wendell campaign).

Thanks for the heads up, I will try to scrape together some money for nicky. My most plentiful commodity is hope, and i am sending as much of that as i can.

Well, yeah. I'm very comfortable with the rule being "no gifts or soliciting" but there should be exceptions.

And nicky's case is definitely an exception.

I was gonna break the rules and post this, too. Glad it's already here.

I don't "know" the lady in question, but this did inspire me to finally send a small check to a fund for a local lady I do know who is a long time cancer survivor alone with a teenage daughter in the same kind of situation. Every little bit helps, and charity begins at home, as they say.

Bunnies rule.
