Super pep rally in sexy heaven [divShare] [More:]

Title brought to you via this this MeFi post and shamelessly yoinked from Paul Ford of The Morning News. "Creature", he writes, "is a massive relief from Montreal. For the first few seconds it all sounds like a mistake—perhaps they are the new Waitresses?—and then I realized that they are wonderful and exhaled a long sigh.

Some things that remind me of Creature: dancing with a golden retriever up on its hind legs; jumping on your parents’ bed to FM radio; a treehouse that is also a helicopter. Far and above my favorite of this set; I bought their album immediately and it is just as good as the song linked above."

That still doesn't quite describe how insanely great this stuff is, though. I also did a little digging and bought the .mp3 album (www.sugartune.com) and it is indescribably wonderful. Let me see if I can try to go Paul Ford one better:

Imagine, if you will, that The Go! Team and Siouxie Sioux kidnapped !!! and Kirk Pengilly (the sax player from INXS), then they all got wired on whip-its and Red Bull, went to an amusement park, raced bumper cars and danced all night in a bouncy castle, then wrote songs about the experience? That might kind of give you a feeling for the band Creature, out of Montreal.

I don't agree with all of Paul Ford's assessments (so, okay, he liked Born in the Flood, and they're our local boys, but goddammit he tried really really hard to hate their demo, which totally doesn't get across the part how unfuckingbelievably fantastic they are live. But I think he's on the right track by inferring that Creature is one of the best things to come out of SXSW this year.
Oh man, that IS great.

BP if you like that track, you really owe it to yourself to grab their album. Trust me.

Is it only available as a download?

I want to be married to a woman for whom, "yoinked" is a standard part of her vocabulary.

Sorry for all inconvenience, MGL, but I just fell in love.

(just kidding, but still, it's a cool word)

thanks, danf, I appreciate the sentiment, although I'm afraid that not only would you have to face the wrath of the mister, I'd be very, very reluctant to face the wrath of my sister-under-the-skin MGL. Besides, I've been in fights where people wore Doc Martens and the result is never good.

I can't take full credit anyhows; I think the trick is just to hang around more 22-year-olds, since I personally 'yoinked' that word from my buddy Frye's vocabulary. Tis a good one, tho.

BP I'm glad you found the CD link, I tend to forget people still dig hardmedia. (I'm a total sucker for instant gratification; my inner teenager craves .mp3 downloadz kthx).

I thought I'd done comprehensive linkage in my post, but apparently not (and my editing sux, too woo! I'll take a 'close paren' for $500 Alex...). Ahem. You can get to their album link easily enough from the bandsite, but for those of you who don't want to bother following the breadcrumb trail thru the whole label site, there's an 'online store' link to the CD from this page.
