Celebrity Crushes I'm watching The Jane Austen Book Club and who should appear but[More:]KEVEN ZEGERS. I love Keven Zegers.

Share your celebrity crushes. Shallowness is allowed, possibly even encouraged.
I was watching The Prestiege a few nights back and was struck, once again, by my never-ending crush on Scarlett Johansson. Her movies I'm sort of meh on, but dayum, she's cute.

I'm 20 years old, shallow, and I approved this message.

Jennifer Ehle. . .if she gave me one of those little half smiles that she does, no telling what I would do. I would have loved to see her in McBeth. . .I am sure she used that smile to get McBeth to murder the king. . .

I think crushing celebrities is a fine idea. The trick is getting them to lie down in front of the steamroller; I've found that it goes a lot easier if you roll out a red carpet first.

Ah, man. I've developed a weird thing for Michael Emerson lately. That would be Ben, on Lost.

It's so....wrong.

Other than my already-expressed devotion to Jason Castro and Paul McCartney, I've also got a crush on Ben de Lisi from watching Project Catwalk.

OK, the movie was terrible, but Maxwell Caufield always makes me swoon in Grease 2. While he's a preppy. After his transformation into a Hot Biker Dude.
posted by muddgirl 17 March | 15:43
Man, Max Caufield is like a proto-Zac Efron.

Kevin Zegers is what, 14? 15? Shame on you, Pinkie!

Also, my undying love for Jennifer Ehle need not be mentioned.

OK, OK, I'm going to out-squee TPS here.

Tony Leung.
Faye Wong
Gael Garcia Bernal.

15 year olds can be admired for their beauty, too!

I like the manly, hunky guys. Jason Statham is the latest man I've seen in a movie that fits this description.

David Wenham (Faramir on Lord of the Rings)
Masi Oka (Hiro on Heroes -- probably happened because he reminds me a bit of my husband)

Jason Statham is uber cool. I've wanted to be him since Lock, Stock and then especially after Snatch. Gael Garcia Bernal too...although I suspect he's a tiny little guy, and I'd have a hard time adjusting to being a short guy. Oh, and if I could wake up tomorrow looking like, and being built like ANY dude, it would totally be Christian Bale in his American Psycho days.

As for women...I will admit to having a small glimmer for the following:
1) Scarlet
2) Kate Beckinsale
3) um...Pamela Anderson. Not now, but I just have always thought she seemed like a much nicer person that she is often portrayed. And, I thought she was pretty hot PRE-pneumatics.

Yeah, I just watched La Mala Educacion this weekend. It's pretty obvious that dude is short and stocky, although he's been going for a waify-indie look recently. But I think he's an incredible actor, and I always walk away from his movies absolutely astonished at how he gets inside each character. And he's super cute. So yeah, totally date-able.
posted by muddgirl 17 March | 17:46
Yeah, Gael García Bernal for me, too.

I'm blanking on any others, but I know there are a few...

See, with my non-sexual crushes on same sex folks, I always find I'd like to inhabit their body for a day or two...See what it's like to be a handsome latino dude, or a built-like-a-brick-shithouse Welsh fella.

Hence my concern about being a short guy! [NOT SHORTIST] [NOT RANDYNEWMANIST]

Besides my well-known fondness for a certain Brit-with-a-guitar, my major crushes are (*sighs deeply*) Clive Owen, Ewen McGregor, and Daniel Craig. Yes, I am helpless in front of the dreamy men of the United Kingdom! I wish to cuddle them all!

Oh, and I must admit how right muddgirl is when it comes to Tony Leung. Sweet holy moses, that man is gorgeous.

Also, if I may, I think my boyfriend is a total hunk (and given that I had a brief crush on him in high school when I saw him in a movie with Jim Carrey -- no lie! -- I guess that means he counts as a celebrity?) So it's certainly not exclusively Brit boys that make me swoon!

Colin Farrell

lust, total lust, especially now.

oh yes, I can heartily endorse Jason Statham.

aside from that, I got nothin. Granted, I'm not much of a celeb follower. Anyway, I get to do lots of real life drooling, since between mr. lfr, our friends, my colleagues and the cycling team, I'm pretty much surrounded by genuinely attractive (yeah, okay, in that wholesome-granola outdoorsy sense) people. This is NOT me trying to be smug, mind, it's simple statistics. I work with a bunch of (mostly) college kids, and pal around with a crowd of endurance athletes. This dramatically improves the daily hit rate of eye candy. tho the flipside is it also gives you a major inferiority complex if you aren't careful. Anyone who lives in L.A. likely understands this concept.

Djimon Hounsou.

Yes he's kind of a pretty boy- so sue me.
posted by small_ruminant 17 March | 18:35
lonefrontranger, when I was in LA I was struck by how many young, amazingly gorgeous cashiers and waiters I ran into... and how incredibly uninformed and shallow they were. Constant.Surprise. I was a young undergrad (with all the arrogance and superficiality that can go with that) and still I was struck by it. So disappointing.

But... they're in the right place. If you're gorgeous and don't have a brain in your head, what better career than Hollywood eye candy?

And before I am accused of LA bashing, I also ran into incredibly brilliant artists and actors down there. Those aren't who I'm talking about.
posted by small_ruminant 17 March | 18:43
I don't know if they're crushes, but I'm always happy when Johnny Depp, Colin Firth, Alan Rickman, Sean Bean white boys represent! or Temuera Morrison wander across my screen.
posted by small_ruminant 17 March | 18:49
yeah, s_r, I get what you're saying, tho I've only spent a grand total of 3 days in LA in my entire life. The cool thing about all the wholesome-granola outdoorsy types I get to hang out with is that (by and large) you can actually hold a conversation with most of them.
posted by lonefrontranger 17 March | 18:50
I would say Jillian from Project Runway, but we were destined to be together, so it's not really a crush.

Seriously, though... for a while it was Natalie Portman, but like a real crush I'm totally over that now and actually can't stand her. Maybe years from now I will remember all the good crushin' we had and wonder what could have been but right now I can't see that being remotely possible.

Oh, I crush all the time, but not steady and heavy. I like being surprised - that "oooh, yeah, I like them" sensation.

I'm a "Dancing" with the "Stars" junkie (premiering tonight), and I'm "oooh" reminded that Samantha Harris is such a cutie. Oh, and because I just saw Jason Taylor, I'll mention that I'm a hard core Ronde Barber girl.

I find it interesting and noteworthy only to me and possibly select metachazens that I crush on my men and my women dark/brunette, in celeb and real world. Mostly. But Scar-Jo is a hottie, dismas. I liked her more before she got so over-processed, though.

I won't take that show seriously until Al Gore is a contestant.

OK, now even *I* would watch that.
