Why do people put stupid requirements in Craigslist ads? You know, things like "no psychotic people" or "no timewasters?" Seeking random input from imaginary friends Does "visiting iniquity of the fathers upon the children" (or if you prefer Shakespeare, laying the sin of the father upon the children), always shake down as punishing children for things their parents have done? Does it ever get expansively interpreted into a sort of apples-falling-from-trees thing. You know, an explanation that you can only expect kids to live up to their upbringing?

I suppose both interpretations are equally bleak.Read more...

Oops, I don't think he quite said what he meant: "Do you think your next-door neighbor should have an Oozie, an AK-47? Any type of gun? Do you really believe that? Good luck. But don't call the police if they're shooting an AK-47 in their back yard." - Chicago's Mayor Daley. So, police in Chicago are going to stop responding to gun incidents? Bad choice of words, mayor.
My Moon My Man. Have I posted this Feist video before? Possibly; can't remember. It's so goofy and cool at the same time. That's right, it's coofy. And I can't for the life of me figure out how they managed to choreograph the moving walkways so well. Blows. My. Mind. Enjoy.

I assume many of you have seen the Mucinex ad with the cuddly green anthropomorphized blob of mucus that sets up housekeeping in your chest. There's also the ad with the cute, grumpy wart that gets frozen off by the OTC remedy, and going way back there's Digger the Dermatophyte, the adorable creature who digs under your cuticles and makes your toenails yellow. My question is this: if they're trying to sell medication, why make what it's getting rid of 'cute'? That's weird to me. But then again, those ads with Charlie the Tuna (who wanted to be put in a can of StarKist and eaten) always baffled me, too. But that's why I'm not an adman.

London hotel/B&B Dear Metabunnies,

I will be attending a meeting at Imperial College late July/early August with my wife *and* our 14-year-old son *and* my sister-in-law. We all get along, but we're having a really hard time finding a non-Dickensian room/suite that will hold 4 people. I'm trying to decide if we should just rent two rooms. Any suggestions? It would be easiest to be in South Kensington, but I'm happy to take the tube or bus if need be.

Things to do in NJ when you're not on a beach vacation. We're headed to Wildwood Crest, NJ for a weekend beach vacation with some extended family we haven't seen in a while. Our hotel is booked and offers beach access as well as a pool. Trouble is, I'm not much of a beach person. I burn easily, don't really care to swim in salt water, and was traumatized by multiple jellyfish encounters as a child. I'm also not much of a shopper.

I wish I could be a phone sex operator. Seriously. Wrong numbers call me back just to talk to me... For real. This has actually happened quite a lot. My favorite was the little eight- or nine-year-old kid (wasn't interested in sexy talk, as far as I could tell). But usually it's guys... and I have what I think of as a sort of "bright" voice in tone, not husky or sexy, but I seem to be irresistible on the phone. Unfortunately, I hate talking on the phone, and get embarrassed even looking at sex scenes in R-rated movies, so I'm not going to make my fortune this way.

Could you do it? Yes? Explain to me how, in your most beguiling voice and rub the small of my back ... right there ... while you tell me. also, that's a great post, I think.
