So I'm thinking about buying a spinning wheel as a gift for someone, and doing a little bit of research on the tubes has turned up more information than my non-fiber artist head can process! :X

Any advice for the neophyte?
All I know about spinning wheels is they got to go 'round.

Ashford seems to make a good product; hope to buy one myself one of these years. If you're looking for an antique/used one, make sure that all the parts are there, because ya cain't easily buy replacements at Wal-Mart! Lemme know if you have any specific questions! (I know the perfect place to go if you're in the Boston area.)

A drop spindle might be a less complicated purchase.

Will it be their first wheel? How much are you looking to spend? I have a friend who just bought her first beginner wheel, and it looks pretty solid - will ask about it.
