Celebrate Mundanity Day! →[More:]
Okay, so I'm people-watching on a glorious sunny day here at Bagel Works.
I'm idly gazing at people walking, noting what they wear, how they move and interact, all the little things people do when they're just out and about.
And it hits me suddenly how ponderous, and truly joyous that is: how millions of people get up each morning, putter about, put on some clothes, move to the kitchen and have something to eat.
I feel strangely comforted by allowing my mind to wander in the mundane, taking in the psychic weight of a million little decisions and reactions that people take in and give off in their daily round.
Sometimes life is best lived not in the grand vision of what we're all trying to accomplish in five years, but in the fact that we regained consciousness and decided to put on pants.
So, celebrate the small and the unnoticed today. Allow yourself a small thought of "Right now I'm doing (insert commonplace, everyday action here)."
The hidden smallness of the world contains vast spaces and eons of time.
