I'm back from my vacation!! What did I miss? [More:]Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic was AWESOME. What a wonderful trip, with some of the friendliest people I have ever had the opportunity to meet. Photos to follow!

It was a perfect trip, and we hope to return next year. You can't ask for nicer people than the Dominicans we met. It was a blast.

Wow, that looks great. How long were you there?

Seven days. Glorious weather, but after a bit the sun was too much and we had to seek shade. A constant breeze so you were never really uncomfortable - I think the humidity is worse here. And the nicest people ever. They have a 1500 foot pool that meanders through the whole resort. It's only three feet deep, but that's plenty to swim in, or laze on a raft. Swim up bar, too. Dreams Punta Cana Resort and Spa. I'd recommend it. We're planning to return, hopefully next year.

Glad you had such a wonderful time. I have conflicted feelings about DR, given the history with Trujillo and the past and current suffering of Haiti (Edwidge Danticat wrote a breathtaking book about it called, The Farming of Bones), but it does look beautiful. I have a lot of students from DR, and they're very proud of and homesick for their country. Many visit family over the summer.

Awesome you got away and had a great time, rv! Beautiful pictures.

Pips, if I ever get a female cat, which I don't plan to (I have this theory of having female dogs and male cats), I would name her Edwidge. I don't mean that to sound flippant - Danticat is an amazing writer.

Looks grand. I have entirely the wrong temperament for that sort of climate, but it's so pretty I'm inordinately glad someone gets to enjoy it. And especially glad you did!
