Wet, wet Wisconsin My photos of the rising Rock River in Janesville. We aren't experiencing the worst of this, even on this river, but this is shaping up to be the worst flooding in my city in decades. And all we can do is watch! (Oh, and sandbag.)
I should clarify that I'm not personally affected -- we're about 25 or 30 feet of elevation up the hill from the river. Waterlogged from the rain, with basement seepage, but not in danger of actual river flooding. Where I am, it's only the half-block nearest the river on either side that's in real jeopardy.

Thanks for posting these. We've been watching this with great interest a hundred miles Southeast of you.

This is a terrible tragedy.

Yet all I can think of is "Welcome to wet, wet Wisconsin, and the wising Wock Wiver."

Ya ya. By der way, my name is Yon Yonson....

Was just downtown again. The city was starting to evacuate buildings along the river and cutting off utilities. The city manager was considering exercising emergency authority to exclude looky-loos (like me) from the area entirely. They're worried about someone falling in the river and being basically unrescuable.
