12 June 2008

Last day on the island for a while, and holy crap! So much to do! Good thing I ordered those extra 10 hours for today.[More:]

I decided to give up Little Izzy Cross-eyes (she's only ever known the island and is young and incredibly skittish), so her new mum is coming to get her this morning. She's got one of Izzy's litter mates, so hopefully they'll get along fine and everything will go well. I carefully separated the clothes I need before I moved, but now they're behind the boxspring somewhere in the furniture maze of my room, as is the steamer trunk that contains my shoes. I hoped to finish a painting job for friends of mine, but it rained pretty much all week and there's a full day's work left. *sigh* Well, I'll do what I can and I can't do no more.

Must have caffeine. Much caffeine. And music. Once my roomates get up.
Oh yeah, and *now* everyone wants to get together with me. It's too freakin' late--I've got an insane day ahead of me, and have to leave at 7:30 tomorrow am to catch the ferry, which I am. not. going. to. miss. However, if my complaint is that people will miss me and want to see me one last time before I go, ain't much to complain about.

Good luck to you, elizard. I have never regretted following my heart.

And because this thread is useless without pictures, Izzy.

Oh, Izzy is so beautiful. I'm glad you're going to leave him with his litter-mate and not put him through the stress of moving across the continent, though. Good for you.

Also, BON VOYAGE! And welcome south, sister!*

Thanks, BoPo. I was kinda feeling like I was abandoning her (even though logically I know it's the right thing and her new home is a good one), so I needed to hear that. She wasn't too keen on the idea, though, so I've got some impressive scratches to remember her by, including a lovely jagged 3-incher on the back of my hand. She's a fighter, my girl :) And thanks, jan, for the words of encouragement. I agree. I've been unsure or worried about many things during the last mad month, but actually going isn't one of them. It's a good sign, methinks.

Happy travels!

I'm excited for you!

(Who gets the shoes, or are you taking them with you?)

Yay! Exciting!

I got my kitty, Zoe, when she was about a year old, because her first owner was getting married to someone who was allergic and she had to give her up. After an initial period of adjustment, Zoe has been totally wonderful and happy and healthy, etc. I often wish I knew the first owner's name so that I could write her and let her know it all turned out well.

All this to say: Izzy will be fine, I'm sure, and it sounds like you're looking after her best interests.

Also, again, Yay! Exciting! And exhausting! :-)

Boy Voyage!

And what jan said. Moving to another country by following my heart is something I'll never regret.

Big hugs to you both!

We had to give up our cat when we moved to Greece, and thank goodness we had a wonderful friend who loved her and wanted to take her. She had a difficult very early life, then two loving families for the rest of her existence, and she lived to be ancient... I think she was even better off with our friend than she was with us at that point in our lives, so I don't at all feel like we abandoned her or let her down.

It's an emotional time and difficult, I know... I KNOW! But every one of my moves has been a step forward and good, ultimately. I send you love and strength. and KISSes!

Aw, you guys are great. Thanks so much.

And now a question: Why is it on days like these, when you have way too much to do and way to little time to do it in and laundry and such and stress and monthly issues and errands and you've just discovered that the trunk with *all* of your shoes in it apart from your work shoes is behind the box spring at the very bottom of a pile of furniture, why is it then that the septic system takes that precise moment to back up. Into your bathtub. And your terlet. And your bathroom floor. Luckily it's just laundry water....so far. But now I have towels that I previously wouldn't have had to wash that, well, let's just say they need washing. But I can't. Um...it's after noon. I'm having a drink. Fuck propriety.

(Oh, and dan? I'm sending all those shoes to you, you lovable creep scamp!)

I think the reason is to make it all completely memorable, plus a good story to tell later. It's actually fate doing you a favor, though it's difficult to recognize it as such at the moment. But months or years down the line, when you're telling the whole tale, you will be so grateful for that plumbing fillip, and other disasters, because it's so much more interesting than "and then the people came and efficiently loaded up all my perfectly packed boxes, and I left with everything spit-spot tidy behind me. It wasn't until a couple years later that I won my Nobel..."

In the event of your return to Cascadia (as I wish Oregon Washington and BC were called), I promise you'll get them back in (near) identical condition.
