London hotel/B&B Dear Metabunnies,

I will be attending a meeting at Imperial College late July/early August with my wife *and* our 14-year-old son *and* my sister-in-law. We all get along, but we're having a really hard time finding a non-Dickensian room/suite that will hold 4 people. I'm trying to decide if we should just rent two rooms. Any suggestions? It would be easiest to be in South Kensington, but I'm happy to take the tube or bus if need be.
I stayed in the Holiday Inn Kensington and loved it. We searched and searched for a room that would sleep four comfortably. It was like a regular "American" hotel room with two queen beds and plenty of space to move around. I would have loved to rent a flat (we looked into it) or stayed somewhere less commercial than the Holiday Inn but I had to be practical since we were with kids. Don't confuse the Holiday Inn Kensington with the Holiday Inn Forum across the street. Holiday Inn Kensington is a three or four storied old building that is old and attractive. The Forum is a big skyscraper. You can read my review here (there are some photos of the hotel in my review). Don't laugh at my grammatical errors. They're a part of who I am. ;-)

If you do like the Holiday Inn Kensington it's in walking distance of Imperial College. The address of the hotel is 100 Cromwell Rd, SW7. It's right across from the Gloucester tube station. Map. We walked to the Natural History museum. IT didn't take long. The Natural History seems to be right next, more like in front of, Imperial College. Good luck with your search!

Dear Lori,
Thanks a bunch! I'll look into that.

LoriFLA's recommendation sounds great, but if you need a cheaper alternative, IC's Summer Accommodation Centre rent out rooms at some of the campus halls of residence (dorms) over the vacation period, and they also claim to offer deals with local hotels that might be worth checking out.

I'm an IC alumnus, and worked for the Summer Accommodation Centre there during the summers of 1988, 89 and 90...

misteraitch,

Thanks. I spoke with them yesterday, and they don't have any rooms available for 4 people on campus or in the hotels you mentioned.
