3-point midweek update [More:]

1. At long last my briefing note on disability discrimination has been published at work. To my delight, it was initially blocked by the IT Dept's 'filth filter' because it contains the words "exhibitionism" and "voyeurism".

2. The repair work on my building has begun, to fix the problems caused by tree roots. The new drains have been 'sleeved', which means the old drains did't have to be dug up, they just ran a new gully inside the old one. There is a lot more work to be done, which will be disruptive for a few months but it's necessary and it'll worth it in the end. But until it's done, I can't finish decorating the flat, which is an annoyance.

3. I am supposed to be going to a friend's hen (bachelorette) party tonight but my social anxiety is kicking in and I don't think I'll go. I have an early start in the morning anyway. I wish I could socialise in a group of people more easily, but it's a struggle for me, every single time.
1) still doing 3 people's jobs at work, crazy hours, o well at least they're paying me!

2) shooting pix at the bike race last sunday with my teammate's sweet D80 and VR lens only makes me want more camera stuff I can't afford. NO, lfr, BAD GIRL, you're barely using the nice Nikon you already have...

3) in 3.5 days I will be on a cycling / camping vacation until 1 July. Current plans are to hit Telluride / Aspen / Snowmass / Steamboat / Glenwood Canyon / Mt. Sopris and the Bookcliffs region (wooboy, wine tours!) and this is going to kick serious butt.

1. Moved apartments yesterday. It wasn't so bad. And our new place is HUUUUUGE (read: tiny for anyone that doesn't live in a cramped area like Manhattan).

2. Still have a cold. Don't want to work.

3. Contemplating what to get for lunch. I don't buy lunch very often so I get choice paralysis when I do.

1. This is the time of year when my job is seriously dull, to the point where it's hard to marshall my enthusiasm to go in each morning.

2. I manage to get my enthusiasm marshalled each morning because there is now a lovely but expensive 6-foot cedar fence encircling my backyard, and it must be paid for. In addition to the food and clothing and shelter I already squander my money on.

3. I am reading a large biography of Franklin D. Roosevelt by Jean Edward Smith. It is good.

3.5. One of the other prisoners here is talking mushy to her boyfriend on the phone. "I love you too sweetheart." GACK! Headphones, headphones, grab the headphones!!

1. I feel very grown-up today, because I am wearing a dress and make-up and heels and perfume and jewelry and I blow-dried my hair. They are officially announcing my resignation at the staff meeting today, and I hate feeling singled out if I'm not dressed up.

2. I'm still annoyed by my classmates last night, who whined and complained and goofed off during the time we were supposed to be working on a group presentation. We had an hour and a half left, and one woman kept saying, "She totally saw that we didn't want to do this project. I can't believe she's making us do work rather than just letting us go home now." WTF? So I ended up doing 80% of the work, while that woman was going on about her god-given right not to have to work during classes, another student kept going on about some cheesy movie, and the third group member kept insisting that a transgender person (the subject of our presentation) was obviously suffering from sexual aversion disorder because anyone who didn't want to be a man obviously didn't like sex. That dude managed to sneer, during our presentation, "We had a hard time determining how to help this person, because we don't know who would hire a person like that," and he steadfastly refused to use the feminine pronoun when talking about the client. Nice cultural sensitivity there, dude.

3. It's sunny! And I am being productive at work (mostly)! And it's sunny!

tch tch occhi, you know that's just what those slackers were hoping for, you enabler, you! (yeah, right, I know, it sucks to have your grade depend on a bunch of hockey pucks but still)

also: seeing as you wore makeup today (cool! so did I - I have a big presentation due at 2) how's the mineral powder deal working/not working out for you? I adore mine but I know it doesn't always work for everyone.

1. I managed to pull a butt muscle while cleaning the house. Am fighting not to limp while walking in the halls at work so that people won't ask how I got injured.

2. I watched "The Wedding Banquet" on cable TV last night. A good flick, but easy to date it to the early 90s because there was a mentality at the time that a girl could "hope" a guy could turn off his homosexuality. Ang Lee's later film, "Brokeback Mountain," fortunately has given up on that fallacy.

3. I have a headache today. I almost never have them, so when I do I get even more cranky and spacey than usual.
posted by Melismata 18 June | 11:54
1. My to-do-list is overwhelming me.
2. Babysitting tonight; dinner with out of town friend tomorrow; home improvement with Guy this weekend; food, drink and gaming with friends this weekend.
3. Custom closet consultations all next week! I have wanted posh closets my whole life!

you know that's just what those slackers were hoping for, you enabler, you!

Yeah, the issue being that we had to go back in and present in front of the class, and this prof insists that everyone in the group do some of the talking, and I freak out if I have to give a presentation -- even an informal one -- unprepared, and I hate having my name associated, even informally, with crappy work. Plus, the final paper is going to be basically the exact same assignment, only we do them individually, so it was actually (1) a good assignment and (2) good practice for the final. It just pissed me off that the other group members were complaining and being stupid so loudly -- it's like, just shut up and do your slacking quietly and stop making me feel like a killjoy for trying to pretend that I'm including you ("So, anyone have anything else to add?" I would ask, in my best displeased kindergarten-teacher voice) as I complete our assignment.

how's the mineral powder deal working/not working out for you?

I really like it, though I think I need to find new mascara, because I always seem to end up with black circles under my eyes by the end of the day, which I don't think used to happen when I didn't wear the mineral powder. I don't really know how that works, but that seems to be what's going on. I love the foundation, though. (I don't use mineral blush or eye shadow or whatever, because I haven't really taken the time to figure out what would work; I'm horrible at choosing blush colors, so I tend to stick to the one or two that I know look ok.)

Max Factor Masterpiece occhiblu. It rocks. The one in the gold tube, the other one, Masterpiece Max in the black tube, is a bit too volumising for those of us who don't wear a lot of makeup.

Three point update - the Health Version:

1. Had my six month eye check up yesterday that was about six months overdue. Need laser surgery in my right eye (retinopathy), but I knew that already.

2. Got the form to get the initial testing for Cushing's Syndrome done, now I just need to do it. The labs are open on the weekend, so maybe Saturday will be the day.

3. The mister is now on two drugs for atrial fibrillation.

1. Must maintain consciousness but any task that involves being upright, upstanding or standing is out of the question. Defining unfit for duty.
2. Aggressively procrastinating. Will Not Do X. Will Not... begrudgingly doing little things behind my own back while determined not to do stuff i really should be doing, gah, i really need to do that--
3. Hurry up, stupid waiting things, before i run out of podcasts, patience and want to bother.

2. My brother graduates high school today! He's off to the local community college to study theatre and drama...we're all very proud of him.
3. My sunburned ankles have miraculously healed, so now I can wear socks tonight at the ceremony! Yay!

1. Slacker boss is annoying me again. I have to stop being annoyed because I really need her and this job right now - my real life is totally chaotic and I have to be able to leave the office at a moment's notice and look at houses and take phone calls from my son and my mother and my brothers and my auntie and therefore slack job with slacker boss is utterly vital.

2. My auntie with the stroke is at my mother's; this isn't working out well; there are big logistical/legal/financial problems as well as the run of the mill physical emotional ones. Yesterday my brother took them both to the arboretum and Mom had a dizzy/nausea spell and had to sit in the shade and Auntie couldn't see anything because she has lost her glasses. Along with her teeth. And her checkbook and her credit card and her social security card and her medicaid card. Sweet holy jesus on a pogostick.

3. Current plan calls for me finding a larger rental house and moving into it along with Auntie. And son, who's at Rehoboth Beach but claims to be coming home tomorrow or, like, sometime soon with this guy Zeus who's pretty cool and has, like, an awesome car. Don't worry, eventually enough information was extracted that this is not as bad as it initially sounded. Therefore I am looking at houses and freaking out about caring for my admittedly somewhat out there at the best of times which this is not auntie and trying to figure out how to inform my current landlord and whether this is all going to happen or if my crazy family is going to leave me hanging out in the wind yet again and on top of all THAT -

4. There's a rat in the kitchen, what am I gonna do? There's a rat in the kitchen, what am I gonna do? I'm gonna move the fuck out, that's what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna move the fuck out.
It seems the sanest course.

1) All sorts of discombobulated today. Having to take 24-hour claritin D to function for 12 hours. I've also gone back to the Xanax.

2) I'm working out the details of my new role at work, and it's engaging, but a little stress-making. I'm supposed to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I can do it, but man it's going to be rough.

3) Personal life making me cranky. I mentioned before that the hub and I get along when we don't try to be married. I think it's time to stop trying. He's been ...unable to Talk for about a month now, and it's making me antsy. Our 15th anniversary is coming up.

1. The crazy hectic project I've been working on at work seems to have an end in sight. As long as nothing is mysteriously* hiding from me, I should be able to have it pretty much wrapped up and deliverable by the end of the month. Which would be awesome. And a kick ass way to be 'i'm totes awesome and have only been here for 6 months. give me more monies plz.'

2. The apartment search is making me testy. People keep saying 'well it's cheaper to live in x.' Yes, it may very well be cheaper. But doubling my commute is full o FAIL. This is going to be a stretch as it is. I don't need to be putting even more gas in the tank.

3. I am supremely exhausted today, which means that going to bed at 930, which totes lame for someone my age, is what I need to do in order to be able to make it through this next round of schooling. Because otherwise I will sleep through all of my classes. And while I could pull that off at Trinity, somehow I don't think UMD is going to be so forgiving.

1. My week has been uneventful except for some weeding, pruning, and other garden upkeeping, and some beach and bookstore going.

2. It has been raining on and off today. It's wonderful because we need it desperately.

3. I'm working three days instead of one next week. This is good. I need something to do.

I. Today I attended my very first c-section. It went surprisingly well. Both mom and baby are tops.
II. Am now considering a c-section, in the event that I ever get pregnant again.
III. Contemplating pouncing my husband for some 'afternoon delight'. Is this a biological urge to reproduce? MMMM. Sexy

1. Ended assignment on Monday.

2. Got a new assignment starting tomorrow for two to three weeks.

3. Not too shabby, considering how miserable this job market has been lately.

1. Busy as fuck at work - finally managed to snag the big promotion I have been trying for, so now have a permanent position two levels higher than previous.

2. Got called in to my boss's office late yesterday to ask me if, because his boss is going on leave for 5 weeks and he successfully applied to relieve in her position to stop a certain other person getting the job (he did this following pressure from most of the staff), I would act in his job for that time, being the highest-ranked candidate from the previous selection process. Starting Monday, I'm the Manager of our unit for 5 weeks and I'm a little scared. But I get an office!

3. Very good friend had her car "stolen" yesterday (by her ex) and the police can't do anything until she can prove that the documents he gave to the tow truck driver to have the car taken away were fake. Sometimes, the world just isn't fair so, in order to tip the balance back a little, I will have to make the effort to turn his life into a living hell to make up for his (many) sins against humanity.

1. I've got a million volunteers at the library lately, mostly teenagers hoping to get a leg up for that first job or pad their college apps or whatever. We're getting caught up on all kinds of stuff, which is great, but I may be running out of things to have the kids do.

2. Finished something I'd been working on for a while.

3. Stuff is bumming me out.

(Warning: Nowhere near as substantive as transphobia, pulled butts, or strokes.)

1. I think it's time for another little spell with a personal trainer, sadly. I've hit a month-long plateau that's detonating my self-confidence. I know how to switch up workouts on my own, but I want to have someone to spot me for super-heavy shit and introduce me to grueling new things I couldn't even dream up. Besides, my Burning Man departure is only nine weeks away (I'm on Early Crew) and I have to go from Fairly Woofy to Hot Shit.

2. Furthermore to which: Costumes!!!

3. I was hoping for a weekend in the desert with Joni Mitchell and my shortwave radio, but it's supposed to be the hottest one of the year, so ... no thanks.

1. Finishing touches for our vacation: letter of medical authority for my mom who is watching our kids; last minute packing; last minute panicking.

2. BrattyStepDaughter just dropped off tickets to her high school graduation tomorrow. Two second conversation. I am still so bitter about what she's done I could spit nails.

3. Wishing life was easier and smoother and people treated each other with decency and respect.

Jessamyn, those PJs are far too cool for real life! An excellent choice.

1. I'm hearing rumors of a possible change in shift again. I'm choosing to ignore them until they pass from rumor to reality.

2. That's really all that's going on right now.

3. Kinda sad, isn't it?

1. I have some serious pajama envy

2. I have some anxiety, which I won't go into here... but I may post an AskMe later and cross post

3. I don't have food poisoning (any more. Gottdamm! it took, like, three days to get totally over with). Which means life is worth living.

1. With my Dad's license being taken away, I'm doing a LOT more driving. My nephew should be getting his license soon (at 19!) but will still need to buy a car. I'm also preoccupied with getting the crappy '89 van we use to haul stuff to the dump back "in compliance" until the van my Dad wrecked can be fixed.

2. A tenant has decided to move out. They're OK, basically few problems, and I always wonder if we'll end up with worse. These share the duplex I live in, so I hope about the same or better! I'll also have a chance to continue fixing up the place. Last year I finally did some updating that was long overdue (we had a family that lived there for twenty years...) but there were still many loose ends, like atrocious smoke-damaged wallpaper in the kitchen.

3. Another tenant, other side of the block, is a sweet Hispanic grandmother, but who moved out and then had to move back in for some reason -- this time she's letting a couple of her grandkids live there, which is a problem. One of the girls has a boyfriend who's been arrested for dealing, and we already gave her notice that he was no longer welcome on the property, but he's there (while out on an ankle bracelet) according to one of the other tenants. Hate to evict her but she's being used by her family, and the other grandkid has been having pot parties with his friends in the alley and mixing with the raucous adult partiers next door. A recipe for worse problems.

3.5 I wish I had a life.

It's almost the end of the week again, thank goodness!

but here are my points anyway..

1) I saw a really great band last night, which was good fun
2) I have a headache, but am not going to let that stop me going to Swing Dancing tonight.
3) the singer of the band was REALLY disconcerting me, as he looked so so similar to an ex whatever, and, even creepier, that was the same room that I last saw the ex in. Also, the singing face he had (you know, the crooning singing face?) was exactly like the ex's "I'm about to kiss / am kissing you" face. Bizz. Ahh.

1. Started a completely new project at work that I'm really enjoying.
2. Had a ball with friends during the stay overs in London this week, lots of lovely restaurants, dancing and a new favorite hotel.
3. Daughter coming home from Dublin for the first time since she started her summer job there. I have missed her like crazy and I'm sooo proud of how she's doing!

All of the above is just in time really as life on my own with two male Aspies was starting to drive me potty!
