Do you know what I want... I want a website that tells you exactly what to buy, cook and eat on a daily basis. [More:] Something that'll email you on Saturday afternoon & tell you how many onions to buy and what poundage of meat and bread you need for the upcoming week. I want it to tell me when and what to cook for dinner with recipes.

I want it to take my weight into account and vary my diet according to that & other health factors. I want it to budget for me.

I want something that takes the decision making out of my cooking & eating.

I really wish something like this existed.
Saving Dinner does some of that. Each week you get a seven day menu and a shopping list. But it costs $30 a year and is pretty traditionally US family oriented. We used it for a few years when my son was still living at home full time and found it pretty handy.

It doesn't take weight or your budget into account and the recipes tend to be very middle America style. We generally doubled or tripled the spices.

I'm actually planning to go to a nutritionist. Any day now, I swear.

Well, that ought to be simple, eth. He just gives you his weekly food budget, you deduct your percentage, and apply the rest to the menu budget. But you're going to have to get up to date on things like where to find durian and lutefisk on sale in Halifax.

I like the idea, seanyboy, but I want it to go farther. I want someone to make it for me and bring it to me. I know there are places in the States that do that, but it's expensive. But it'd be sooo nice just to give a list of my likes and dislikes, health issues, etc. and have them come up with meals and deliver them to my door.

My boyfriend has talked about making a site like this - we started an excel spreadsheet and made up a few formulae, plugging in our favourite meals and linked to the short-lived pantry inventory spreadsheet, but we've always gone back to the monthly meal plan. We print out a four week Mon-Fri calendar (weekends are free) and plan what we're going to cook each week, taking into account leftovers and in pencil so we can rub it out and change it as necessary.

And, then, tonight I ate pretzels, pistachios, two peaches and an orange for dinner. So it goes.
