When I was recovering from breaking my arm in half, I plowed through all of the available Sopranos episodes. I give it two thumbs up for hazy painkiller watching.

I always seem to bring this movie up when people ask for recommendations, but I just found another good review of it this morning: Two-Lane Blacktop.

I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark again after many years. It's the best.

Crimes and Misdemeanors is one of my favorite movies.

Have you seen Goodfellas and Casino? These are a must-see.

One of my favorite movies, Groundhog Day, is definitely undemanding.

You might like 49 Up. I've been trying to rent this for a while.

Another good movie: Finding Neverland

The Thin Blue Line (an Errol Morris documentary) is very good, nuanced, multi-layered. Intriguing both for the story and on its meta-level.

I also really liked Zodiac, which is not at all a typical Hollywood cop-serial-killer movie. Instead it's got a bunch of very fine (often under-rated, like Anthony Edwards) actors creating very interesting people, all tied into this very long, unsolved puzzle.

If Life on Mars is available on DVD over there (it's not here which makes me sad, almost weekly, especially now that idiot-American-teevee is REMAKING IT instead of REBROADCASTING it. Morons), you should watch it, if you haven't seen it already.

I broke my leg rather badly several years back and I coudn't get enough of "Oz" - a rather brutal look at prison via HBO. (I don't have cable, so I'd be sending folks out for the DVD's.) Lately I'm totally enraptured by "Mad Men" - the ad industry in NYC in 1960. It's iTunes downloadable. "New Amsterdam" is also good. And so is catching up on your sleep, you having surgery and all!
