Electro-music. Updated muxtape, inspired by/dedicated to Zack_Replica.
BoPo - today is designated "Vinyl Only" day at the Slack office (aka my 2nd bedroom since I work at home), but the tracklisting looks great - and that's from someone who's hit-and-miss with electro stuff (I'm a guitar and pop hooks guy). But you've got a great track record, so I'll check it out over the weekend. OMD, Foetus, and Carter USM are enough to make me expect other gems.
Oh cool! Thanks BP, you kick ass! I'm at work and can't listen, but it'll be the first thing I do when I get home. There's a couple of bands I haven't heard before (The Tuss, The Knife... Miss Kitten. Hmmm. isn't she with The Lords Of Acid, or am I mistaken?)
DI-1-9026 is Foetus at his pinnacle of songwriting, IMHO.
More comments after I get to listen!
Hope you like, Zack! Your re-acquainting me with Revolting Cocks (I was a huge Ministry fan in college, and sometimes heard music from Jourgensen's side projects, but never had any of their stuff) has had me in a real "industrial" frame of mind, lately. :)
Slack, I hope you find something to like! I'm normally a guitars-and-pop-hooks guy, too, so maybe that'll come through.
Hellbient, I only know Miss Kittin's first album (the one called, uh, "First Album," I think) so if you find other good stuff by her, let me know. I know she's done some DJ mixes, but I've never heard of any other projects.
Woo, home. After the shitstorm that was the last 2 hours of work + overtime and pressure, I've been looking forward to your updated mix. Then hellbient and then eth's tapes.
I've updated my muxtape too with some weird/minimal/aggro/sexual stuff. Oh, and culture.
Ok, the Miss Kitten would go really well with the Flying Lizards and The Normal that I put up. Nice. Have to look up more.
Hmm. OMD. Does this mean you have their early stuff, where they were doing neat stuff (read: not sappy love songs)? I have all of their stuff from the self-titled release (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark) to "Navigation The OMD B-Sides." I'm pretty partial to the early stuff when they held true to the influences of Kraftwerk, Can, etc.
I had a lot of OMD's stuff on vinyl until the Great Vinyl Robbery of 1985 in which I lost TWO CRATES of records to an unscrupulous bastard.
That said, I like pretty much anything OMD ever did... the sappy stuff like "Talking Loud And Clear" is irresistible, but I liked the "musique concrete" stuff too. There's a new reissue of Dazzle Ships out on CD that's pretty cool... the title song was pretty much my introduction to the "music as noise" idea. And it was LOADS of fun to blast out the windows of my little Renault LeCar as I tooled around my Georgia town circa 1983.
Does the Dazzle Ships reissue have anything extra on it? It's one of my favourites because it's sort of all over the place from pop to serious. Excellent album art/design too. Don't know if you've ever been to the OMD official site, but the Discography section has a lot of interesting background on the albums and songs.
Yes, the Dazzle Ships has a couple extra tracks at the end that are apparently from their first stab at recording the album, plus some singles. They're not great, but they are interesting if you're into the history of the band.
