I wonder what they were thinking as they looked up at the helicopter. You can see them poised with spears and bows. Probably thinking "There goes the neighborhood."

In all honestly I think it's neat that there still are uncontacted tribes anywhere. Man, would they be in for a culture shock!

I don't believe it (that they are uncontacted). Color me cynical.

Apparently, "uncontacted" tribes have generally heard about us from other tribes and chosen to stay away. The Brazilian government allows them to do so, for fear of giving them our infections (physical and cultural.) They may have had minimal contact with a prospector or two.

2nd serena. Likely they are not completely unaware of "The West." That said. This "disciovery" is gonna say a whole lot more about us than it does about them.

From the linked NYTimes article:
Experts doubt that the people in the new Brazilian pictures, or others who have been sighted, are truly “uncontacted” tribes, as was reported in some news accounts. They think, instead, that the group in Acre was probably pushed out of Peruvian territory into Brazil by loggers sawing down their habitat.

Still, I found the pictures fascinating.

That said, I wonder what side of the Cilantro debate they will choose.

Who needs cilantro when you've got ayahuasca and hallucinogenic toads?

How horrifying it must be for them to see helicopters and so on, and the people on them. No wonder they're shooting arrows.
