York Beach meetup and Skee-Ball Tourney: Time to plan! [More:]So the idea has been floated a few times to do a bunny/MeFi beach meetup in the awesome shoreside town of York Beach, Maine.

I'd like to get the planning started. The original idea was just to meet in the morning and have a beach day of swimming, sunning, maxing and relaxing on the beach, at some point breaking for the Skee Ball Tourney, followed probably by food and beverages at one of the nearby establishments.

Some questions: would you like to come? If so, when? Picking a weekend day definitely makes it possible for a few more people to attend. On the other hand, weekends are thronged and parking is a challenge. If a weekend is the best pick, I guess we should look at Saturday, since people might need travel time on both ends. My first pick, I think, would be Saturday, July 26.

There is excellent potential for this to be a bit of a Bunnystock, if that's desired. There are any number of motels and nifty retro tourist cabins right in York. There is also ample primitive sleeping space at my or LT's apartments -- futon, air mattress, couch, and floor. I'm thinking that an optional overnight component would be a fine idea. After the festivities in York, any die-hards could come back and hang out here, with breakfast at the Friendly Toast and other localrific activities.

Any additions, suggestions, modifications to this basic plan? Anyone interested? 'll use this thread to make the final plan before posting it as a done deal on MeFi and here.
This looks great, Miko. I might be able to make it. What airport is closest?

Back to ad that if summer doesn't work for people this looks good:

There are special events year-round in York, including Harvest Fest in October,

I desperately want to go Maine. Desperately!

I'll stop posting now!

Oh, I certainly think this is a strong possibility!!

I could possibly make it to this, but since airplane tickets cost more if you buy them less than a month before you travel, I've only got four days to figure it out for sure. Maybe sometime in August? Also, August would mean people like me and LoriFLA won't have to bring parkas.

It's actually hot in the summer, Beeps!

I would love August too, but it already looks like a busy month. The only possibility would be like mid-August, maybe Saturday the 12th or the 19th.

Sounds like there is a strong preference for August. Back to the drawing board. I'll just pick a date, I guess, and let the chips fall where they may.

I am pretty sure I have a wedding to attend in the middle of August. Need to find out which weekend.

Miko, did you mean "Saturday the 9th or the 16th"?

I've thus far resisted posting here, only because it seems sensible to give greater weight to the needs of those who will be coming from a greater distance.

If we made it Saturday, August 9th, I might actually be able to make it --- but Miko and I would need birthday cake. (It's a medical and legal requirement; I'm sure you all understand.) The rest of August is pretty hectic for me; out-of-town guests always choose August.

If it were the 9th, that would be my travel day; I would be coming by train, which means a transfer in Boston by cab to North Station. Do you two mind belated birthday cake?
posted by brujita 23 June | 11:45
I never mind cake, belated or otherwise!

But it sounds like the date is still up in the air, and long-distance travellers should plan out what works best. August will be busy for me, but I'll do my best to make it on whatever date suits the most people.

The first half of August works for me. August after the 18th does not work. September works.

The wedding is August the 16th. So far, any weekend but that looks ok.

To be fair, "strong preference" was, at that point, two people.

There are a lot of pluses to Aug. 9.

1. Double-bunny b-day
2. More people can make it than can't
3. It's in August

I'm liking it. Wouldn't have predicted that for my birthday partay, but I like it!

Skee ball meet-up!

I'm realizing that getting there and back may be tricky for me without a car, but if we decide on August 9th, I WILL BE THERE.

No way would I turn down a birthday party with Miko! If travel plans allow, I will bring cake.
