This is for chrismear. [More:]
And, of course, anyone else who wants to play, it's just that I mentioned it to chrismear at the last meetup.

I am blessed/cursed with almost perfect pitch, but a terrible singing voice. Like Ringo Starr, I have a vocal range of about four notes, but because I have great pitch, I can always tell that I'm way off the note. It doesn't matter for things like 'Losing My Religion' which I can sing along to just about in tune because it has such a narrow range, but anything more challenging is torture for everyone.
Heh, heh. I'm going to try to work the phrase "Like Ringo Starr, I ..." into my conversation over the next few days.

Ooo,this looks useful. I don't have perfect pitch, but after years and years of playing piano I just need to know the first note and then I can fake all the rest by the intervals. Cannot sing to save my life though - I have a weird range between alto and tenor that nobody writes for.

aaw, thanks this was fun (and I suck at it) but it's so easy to use I try and have Perle play, she's always looking to do something on my computer and this seems easy enough to do.

This is interesting, thanks essexjan! While I can occasionally guess the correct note cold, I don't have anything close to reliable perfect pitch. But my relative pitch is good, so once I'd found out what the first note it played was, I could get the rest. Which is cheating, I guess.
