Gadget Lust Does anyone know about 'Hand-Built PCs and Parts'? They're taking pre-orders for the MSI Wind - $399 for Linux, $499 for XP.

Don't know a thing about Hand-Built. What's the Wind? An Eee competitor? And as long as I'm asking questions--why no white-or-pink or black-or-pink options? They've got about every other permutation covered.

Yes, everyone and his cousin is coming out with ultraportables.
Laptop Magazine gave the Wind a rave review. Amazon.com is going to sell it, but you can't order it, just request that they send you email when it's available.

Sounds nice, and MSI makes a decent motherboard. But no solid-state drive?

Now if we can only find someone who actually sells it, we'll be set! I couldn't find any information about Hand-Built, so I think I'll wait until amazon, etc. have it for sale. The MSI site has a 'Where to Buy' link, but no one seems to have it yet.

The guy who runs Hand-Built did show up on the forums. Sounds like a good guy, but it is a new operation.

The Hand-Built PC guy bailed out and says he will be refunding money to people who pre-ordered. I don't think the Wind is vaporware, just this vendor.
