Happy Pride Day to all other not-entirely-straight bunnies and their supporters! [More:]Just got back from the celebration in San Francisco. Despite the overwhelming commercialism of it all, it still feels so damn good to be surrounded by literally hundreds of thousands of queer folks. May the unicorn rainbows bless you all!
Hear, hear. Never surrender. Push the culture forward. Thanks, guys. Intent, not identity.

I want a unicorn, too! If enough of us get together, could we clamor for a Rainbow Unicorn faith, like the Flying Spaghetti Monster?

I remember the first time I went to any kind of Pride thing after coming out in 2003 was the Ginormous SF Parade Thing and, um, wow: that was pretty much the gayest thing ever. I went back a second year and found it kind of commercial, but I got all teary and emotional and it was awesome to be there with zillions of people and just feel so loved, even if all of my cosexualists and our friends and relations caused a huge traffic jam later.

Hopefully the day will come when wherever I live on this small, fragile planet of ours will be as welcoming as Metachat!

The gf went, but I stayed home, feeling confident that being crowd-averse (and a staunch non-flag-waver) doesn't make me any less proud.

I was on my way to the grocery store when I heard a snippet of an NPR interview with two advice columnists. I'm pretty sure one was Dan Savage, but I don't know who the woman was. Anyhow, in the brief bit I heard, she was telling the story of two lesbians -- one Australian, and one American. With one's visa expiring, they were searching for ways to be able to live in the same country, but there weren't really any legal ways for them to do so. One ended up *adopting* the other. It was the only way they could stay together, since they couldn't marry.

My jaw dropped. It made me grateful that things have progressed as far as they have. Things aren't perfect, but they're better.

So, yes, happy pride to everyone. May we continue to chip away at the intractable illogic of the bigots.

Oh, wow, I haven't heard one of those stories in a looooong time. I'd forgotten how it used to be.

Thanks for the reminder: there really have been great changes so far, and more to come. Happy Pride!

Hugs all around!

Actually, until the federal govt. recognizes same-sex marriage, it's still that way. Shakesville's been covering a lot of that issue; a lot of gay American citizens have left the country because they can't be with their international partners here.

Happy Pride Day! I'm generally straight myself, but having grown up in Northern CA I still feel a part of the not-so-straight family. :)
