Remember that David Bowie question from the other day? Yeah, me too. But I did come across a cool video with Annie Lennox and David Bowie[More:]

I love Annie Lennox more than a grown man should. No More I Love Yous is one of my favorites of hers. And, how can you forget the amazing 80's pop Eurythmics?. Plus she's done other covers. Every time we say goodbye.

My favorite Bowie tune? There's too many to like, but I do love the above Under Pressure. Fame is so great, and is the great funk combination which Adrian Belew shines on.
That Lennox/Bowie duet is superb. I wish Freddie could have heard it. That song is a HUGE HUGE favorite of mine, and Annie nailed what should have been an impossible task- being as theatrical and emotive as Freddie Mercury, without tipping over into either imitation or parody. I remember reading back in the 80s where she said that he was a big influence on her, and damn if she didn't pay him back with that one performance. Outstanding.

I agree BP, and you put into words what I felt about her performance much better than I ever could have. She was dramatic, and yet she made it a tribute, and didn't try to overshadow Freddie (who could?), and letting the audience sing out their favorite parts was the ghost of Freddie being there. She pulled it off like no one else could. David was awesome of course, but he was there for the original. ;)

From what I've heard, Annie had not heard "Under Pressure" until that afternoon's rehearsals, which makes the performance all that much better.

Oh, and if you're wondering why Annie's wearing that mask of dark makeup, here's why. Of course, the look owes a lot to Blade Runner.

Another great Annie cover, one I like even better than the Paul Simon original, is this.
