You pretty much hit the only two songs I liked off that record. But damn did I love "Institutionalized". Pretty much anything from Repo Man was OK with me (even Juicy Bananas). The Suicidal song actually holds up better than I thought it would after all of these years.
I drew a cartoony punk skeleton on the back of a button down shirt that I'd love to see now. At the time I thought it was pretty bad-ass, but now I'm sure it'd look more dumb-ass.
Although I also liked the late-period 'Send Me Your Money,' because it seems very much of that brief boomlet in anti-televangelist songs (plus Mike's just so silly in the video--reminds me of Mike Patton in the 'Epic' video, or maybe De La Soul in 'Me, Myself & I'). Two other anti-televangelist songs that come to mind, both from groups who don't necessarily do a lot for me otherwise: 'Jesus He Knows Me,' by Genesis, and 'Shelter Me,' by Cinderella (just a verse, contrary to my recollection).
Will you help me think of other anti-televangelism videos? Because, man, I love 'em.
And I always thought of them as a thrash metal band with a punk ethos, a fondness for heavy basslines and a good sense of humor about things. No punk worth their salt that I knew ever turned up their nose at Suicidal any more than they would have at Motorhead, Slayer or the selected works of Muddy Waters.
A 14 year old I knew was so stoked on Institutionalized that I gave him my own Repo Man CD. It was clearly more relevant to his life than it ever was to mine, poor bastard.
I feel sorry for the kids whose parents have enough money to pull that shit.
