This is the week I find out if I've been laid off after 15+ years. I don't know when I get the call with the good or bad news, but it's coming some time before Friday.
→[More:] I don't know how deep the cuts will be here, but a third of our work force is being cut internationally, so I'm not expecting the best.
My company did a "pre downsizing downsize" just over a year ago, which means that most of us left are really good at what we do. A lot of very strong employees are going to lose their jobs for no fault of their own. At this stage all I can do is hope for the best or least for a good severance package.
Either way, I'm ready. I like my job and I'd like to stay, but I'm really over due for a change (and a pay raise), so this could be the push I've been waiting for. Complacency, comfort, and fear of the unknown are hard things to shake when you know you really should move on.
And yet at the moment the thing that bums me out the most this morning is loaing George Carlin.
