What are you doing today? Might I suggest→[More:] Da Butt?
Sweating. Ms. Octo is coming home from a business trip tomorrow so I really should be doing laundry, washing dishes and cleaning the kitchen but I can't seem to move in this heat. The cats seem to agree with me, they have deflated and look like flat furry rugs.
I am currently at work, prepping the office for the boss' boss visit tomorrow + all staff meeting. (I normally work on Sundays, but I need to make sure everything is shiny for this.)
Then to the grocery store for food for the week and then back home to hide from my parents and continue to look for places to move to.
Well, I've managed to clean up the kitchen somewhat and am now sitting on the side porch, drinking coffee, looking at the roses and listening to Guster. I should probably mow the 'lawn' and do some weeding. I put lawn in quotes because it's only about four feet wide so that fact that I can't keep it trimmed is pretty pathetic. Flowers smell nice though.
Trying to get myself motivated in the blazing heat to get dressed, get in the car and drive up to see my friends in Bat Cave. It will be cooler up there. But it's 45 minutes and I can't find anyone to go with me.
I cleaned house, washed clothes, walked dog, read, napped, walked dog. There's leftover chicken, so I won't be cooking. Mr. taz is going to a wrap party that I don't feel like going to, so I see some watching-tv-on-the-couch-with-the-dog in my future, and hoping there aren't any more reports of fatalities/injuries reported from today's earthquake. :(
MGL, if I were a few hours west of here I'd head up there with you! Anything to escape this heat. Lordy.
I went wading in a state park with a couple of friends, and now I'm lying in bed with the laptop, encrusted with salt (from me) and sunscreen (from a bottle). A shower is in order, and then I might make some food from the veggies I got at the farmer's market yesterday.
I'm eating a hot pocket and sipping chardonnay. Fancy.
I do love those individual bottles of Sutter Home wine. Perfect for drinkin' and cookin' when you just want one or two glasses.
Got the Food Network on for background. Putzin around the internet, pricing virtual vacations, and flipping through catalogues for fat girl clothes (the clothes always look nicer in the catalogue than in person). Steaks are defrosting on the counter for later.
Jon's baking on the porch. I'll go out in a minute and flip him over. Even cooking is important.
I'm weeding asparagus, finishing a chicken tractor, and mowing. If I'm motivated, I'm going to head over to the neighbors and collect a load of secondhand cinderblocks.
Perusing the net, cuddling a cat, wanting a tuna melt but knowing I'll have leftover pizza later, thinking about playing WoW, mentally thanking eatdonuts for the PostSecret reminder.
Waiting for the tree guy to come and rescue my kitten, who's been up a tree for at least 24 hrs, probably longer. Waiting for my Dad to come by for a visit, as he's on island today so I get to see him before I go away. Trying not to pull my hair out (metaphorically speaking). Current strategy involves much tea and chain smoking, as prior strategy of vodka and chain smoking didn't work that well. Alternating between railing at the universe, begging it to stop fucking with me, and flagellating myself for indulging in self-pity. Things could, after all, be worse, and are for a lot of people. Somehow that's not much consolation atm, but I'm working on it.
If I write it, maybe I'll feel committed to get off my tuchis and do it:
- baking bread.
- moving some shelves from the kitchen to the study, which means re-organizing both the kitchen and a corner of the study.
- putting away some of the clothes strewn all over the bedroom, and shelving the books I've scattered over the place.
- my physical therapy routine, but of course.
- this evening, a long leisurely walk.
If I get three out of five done, I'll be pleased.
I went for just straight up tuna salad instead. I haven't had mayo in the house for quite some time, so here's the basic recipe I used. Tuna. Olive oil. Capers. Scallions. Pepper. I used too many capers, so it was crazy salty. But otherwise, YUM.
Today I went to science camp and got our T-shirts and filled out some health forms. Then I went to my parents. My father was letting my seven-year old drive the ride on lawnmower my himself. With the blade disengaged, but still a little scary. Before that they were playing with a pocketknife collection and operating a drill. A couple weeks ago we were shooting BB guns. It's all a little scary. Now I am at home and cleaning up toilet paper that my dog shredded earlier today.
Elizard, is the kitten down yet? I'd be chain smoking over that, myself.
I went early to the local flea market, slathering myself with sunblock before going. I picked up two adorable summer dresses for cheap, then home for a shower. After lunch, off to the outlets with Mr. V and Son #1. Now kicking back, thinking about watering the plants as they're looking a bit droopy in this heat, and watching "The Producers" on tv. It's been a great day so far.
Kitten is down, yep. Thanks for asking, rv. One of the local tree service guys went up and got her--she was probably about 30' up a cedar. She's a bit freaked out, but has eaten and had water and treats and snuggles, and will hopefully calm down eventually.
Hmmmm.... let's see. Church. Work. Printing and sending dozens of Father's Day cards for a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser. Not much time for anything else.
