Sharing my good mood: What are y'all up to today?[More:]

The sun is pouring in through my windows over the migratory bird sanctuary on the lake shore across the road, fresh air is wafting through the condo. LeTigre is grooving on my Creative Zen which is cycling through my entire cd collection; I've got curried lentils simmering, red peppers roasting for muhammara, cocktail glasses chilling, and I am about to chop up various herbs &c for raita. Although he's not yet here, this is a Guy-Here-not-There week.

Sometimes, folks, life is beautiful.
We're going grocery shopping. Then I'm gonna sit on the porch and drink beer, read James Ellroy and Mordecai Richler, and listen to music. Then there's some MASH reruns on at 8.

Off for a visit to the birthing center at my hospital. Fun, fun!

I did laundry, set up my most impulsively impulse purchase ever it is the best thing ever how did I live without one?! and now I am going to drink beer, make pasta, and watch Lost. Later I might get really daring and take some cardboard recycling out.

Just ate the remains of the pasta I made late last night, emptied the dishwasher and rack, and am currently breathing and not exacting any sort of revenge on my sister for her stupid-ass hijinks. Realizing it's only 2pm instead of something like 6pm. Being amazed by that fact.
Pressing preview.
Now hitting post.

Well, still recovering from a cold (a summer cold is such an insult!). Right now, I'm in bed with a fleece blanket wrapped around my shoulders and a glass of Emergen C, but on the upside, my sister just got in from Buffalo, and I am sooooo happy to see her!

Made some sweet potato and black bean hash this morning, which I'm eating now. Rode my bike to karate class and back (it's so gorgeous out!), and want to go out riding some more after I eat. Going to see a friend's play tonight, after which there will be drinking.

Isn't it a beautiful day?

I had to get up really early to take my fiance to the airport for a business trip. Left to my own devices once I returned home, I ended up baking two batches of banana muffins and two loaves of chocolate chip zucchini bread. Before noon. Good thing he doesn't go out of town for work very often; I'd be 500 lbs, apparently.

Later the dog and I are going for a nice walk along the lake shore.

At some point I'm going to gather a bunch of things together to work on my tattoo design.

This. And then a nap, then I watched Rachael Ray, whose guest was Tim Gunn, and I just finished a 2-hour phone call with j's_p. I sent off my CV for a job and now I'm about to have dinner.

Bulk pickup starts this week, so we cleaned out a bedroom, rearranged both sheds, and marveled over how many people picked through our trash. (Actually, it more surprised Mr. V than myself; one man's trash...another man's treasure and all). Got to spend time outdoors, got rid of a lot of stuff, and am relaxing right now. Plus, all the boys are outside, Yay!!

Nuts. As I type this, the youngest just came back.

Slept in until 2, and am now getting caught up on my feeds.

Another lazy Sunday is what it is.

Just to share the knowledge: porkless collard greens don't work. Don't bother, people. But finishing off said greens with a stewing with pork shoulder is amazing. i have a problem thinking they have much nutrition after being cooked for so long, though.
Trying to figure out where to start on the ever growing listing of things i haven't done yet, why i try to decide what to eat, repeated watching this cartoon, which i have been looking for. If anyone finds the one where they "didn't forget the gravy", do pass it along.

Hee. Best bit in that cartoon is when the kitten hotwires the toy car.

I've been in a wonderfully mellow, chilled mood this weekend. Past six weeks have been intense, I wouldn't say stressful, 'cause I love what I do, but still with lots of work to be done in short times and always something else coming up 'round the corner and fast. And it was frequently a cold and dark sort of late spring, which again I can enjoy; I like crisp mornings and I love staying in and getting stuff done while it's pouring out. But still...

...this Friday was last day of classes, and it was gorgeous out, warm, real summer day, I had two hours in class to finish up a last project or two and hand out exams, and then in the afternoon got the last outstanding grading done and felt just amazingly free. Woke up crazy early Saturday like you do when you're a kid and took the dog into the office and got some things done on my own time, just this and that, just the stuff I was interested in doing, interspersed with goofing around on here, walking the dog around, having spur of the moment lunch with some students, lying on the front lawn in the sun; come the end of the afternoon we took a walk all about town, picked up some stuff for dinner, which I hardly ever do, came home, ate & chilled. Today, much the same, except I went in to the office by myself, got tons of stuff done but again just on my own time and just the stuff I felt like working on. I got my groceries for the week, came home, unpacked, cleaned up, took the dog for a long walk down the river and back, no shirt, no shoes, sun beating down on my back. It was warm enough the dog even wanted to go for a swim, which she rarely does, and she hopped in right where there's a rapid current, came back out spluttering a bit and clearly peeved at the water and its treachery. She shook all over me, of course, but it's hardly the first time that's happened.

Some kind of storm tried to come up but it was just a lot of wind - oh, it was a lot of wind, though, it put thoughts of tornadoes in my mind though I've never seen one - and the sun was coming back out of the black by the time I got home. I had good stuff for sandwiches, meat and cheese and butter and good rolls, and good fruit, and a good strong & cold bottle of beer in the fridge waiting.

And if anyone's more blessed than that, then gosh! I don't know how.

Confidential to György Gát: I'm not so mellow I won't still get up and throttle you if I should happen to see you passing by. Only I'll do it in a totally chill kind of way & at my own pace.

I visited my parents today. I gave myself a pedicure and chatted with my mom while my dad went on a walk with the boys.

I saw Sex and the City with a group of friends tonight. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I saw most of the series but never really identified with, or particularly liked, any of the characters. I actually cried at this movie. It was halfway decent.

I'm watching Recount on HBO. It's cool to hear Kevin Spacey say the name of my county (Volusia County) four or five times.
