Shameless Self Promotion Because I hadn't written anything for MSNBC.com's TV section for six months (for stupid reasons of my own) and suddenly sold 2 high-concept ideas in one week:
Yearbook Honors from TV High School (might not be what you think)
and TV's Power(less) Players.
[More:]
No need to tip the author, but a click on the "Rate Story" widget with lots of stars would be appreciated.
(TV) I think Colm Meaney has been back in the UK for a while... he's had a lot of prominent theatre roles over the last few years. Was also on the poster of Brit movie "Three and Out" (haven't seen it).

He always seemed a bit wasted on Star Trek: great actor crammed into a shallow part.

So he's going to be Gene Hunt in the US adaptation of "Life on Mars"? Could be interesting...

Wait, your name isn't really Wendell Wittler?

That was my first thought, too.

Shhhh! It's a seeeeekrit!

Those were entertaining, wendell, unlike, say, the actual shows. :)

Wendell, these are good! Very entertaining.

I love Jeffrey Tambor. I am sad Twenty Good Years didn't make it. I *love* John Lithgow. It seemed like such a good concept.

Off to rate many stars.

Good lord, I never twigged that was Dana Delaney on Desperate Housewives. That's what you get for fast-forwarding through the opening credits, I guess.

Nice work, (aka wendell) :)

And - OMG - are they really going to make a US version of Outrageous Fortune? Why, American network execs, whyyyyyy?

Proofreading note: On the Drama King and Queen entry, Katherine Mayfair/Dana Delany is listed as "Runner-up" instead of, presumably, "Drama Queen".

To answer your questions:

Wait, your name isn't really Wendell Wittler?

No, not legally, but it's the only name I use on the internet and in other creative dealings. Except MSNBC.COM (this part of the website being controlled by the Microsoft part of the partnership) had to have the other name in order to PAY me, and the corporate confusion over pseudonyms led to that awkward disclaimer that has appeared on all of my articles. Silly, ain't it? I am SERIOUSLY considering a legal namechange, but I have -er- other legal matters to clear before that. Anyway, thanks for reading closely enough to notice.

I think Colm Meaney has been back in the UK for a while...

The Star Trek paragraph in original form ran kind of long, even for me, starting with the point that the J.J. Abrams upcoming prequel movie would involve none of the producers from the post-Roddenberry era, and including a reference to Colm's "ubiquitous Irish accent" and his new role this fall where he can't use it. All lost to the thankless job of editing my writing into coherent form.

On the Drama King and Queen entry...

In my submission, to be conststant with the rest of the article, I used "Drama Queen or King". My editor (MeFi's Own GaelFC) changed it. When I first saw the finished version, I suggested the same adjustment as Atom Eyes, and it wouldn't have been the first time one of my articles got tweaked after webpublication (one of the reasons I prefer it over print), but Gael had/has a bunch of other season-end and summer themed articles to work on (including my second) after recently returning from maternity leave and will probably get around to it by next June :-)

For a look at what else she edited out of the Yearbook article, see my pseudonymous eponymous blog. (Also rejected titles for the second piece.) And Gael, if you see this, I am NOT criticizing you... I said it before and I say it again: you're the reason my articles there are coherent (and the reason they're there at all, don't forget to look at my new proposals). :-D

Please explain fully to me the ethics (or lack thereof) of spec work. || Short, sad entry
