Who do you think is not as famous as they should be? [More:]I've been re-watching "Two of a Kind" on SurfTheChannel, and am surprised that I forgot how funny Christopher Sieber is. He is really great- his timing really takes the show (which is already well written for a throwaway network comedy and that originated as an Olsen twin vehicle) to the next level. I'm a little surprised he doesn't do more television work- he's done a little here and there, but that was his biggest role (he does do a lot of theatre- was in the original cast of the musical Spamalot).

So there's my tribute for the day. Who's on your list?

Tilda Swinton. I think she's a little famous, but she should be more famous!

Giovani Ribisi.

And a couple of bands that I'm always surprised it seems no-one has heard of.

Richard Buckner. He plays a tiny club (really tiny--it's even called Iota) near here once a year or so, and I'm always blown away, by how good he is and by how few people are there to see him.

Lance Reddick!

I wonder if Ribisi is held back because he's a Scientologist?

I'm having trouble coming up with my own...Louis CK? Though it doesn't help that his HBO sitcom kinda sucked (it had its moments though).

More likely his hottie sister.

Chris Offutt.

Heh. I knew Offutt at Iowa in the mid-90s, and know him via a friend out here these days (just ran into him at Sex and the City the other night -- well, actually, they were seeing Indiana Jones; we were seeing SATC). I think his relative level of fame works, um, just fine for him.

*furiously favorites BoPo's comment eighteen billion times* (I remember The Jody Grind!)

Writers: Richard Powers. Gene Wolfe. John McPhee.

Musicians: Five Eight. Lucero. The Dexateens. Glossary. The Drive-By Truckers. (Again, kinda famous, ought to be moreso)

Actors: This is something I would have to go to movies to know.

I suppose, but he's definitely one of my favorite writers, just behind Price, Richler, and Perrotta. I've been digging him ever since The Same River Twice. Tell him he's got a fan in Queens.

The Drive-By Truckers.

You'll be pleased to know that DBT (along with the Black Keys) are members of that small club of Newer Bands That Jonmc Digs).

ME!

Also the entire cast of The Wire not just Reddick.

I always thought Amorphis should get more love for their later stuff than they did - but it was always filed under, and marketed as "metal", even though it was the Pink Floyd-y, spacey, psychedelic 70s rock loving crowd that would seem likely to get the most out of it.

Veil of Sin
Goddess of the Sad Man
The Way
Enigma

Also, I've probably I said before, but Elegy was probably damned near a life-saver for me once 'pon. Do I love those lyrics!

Oh, and you know who else? Annette Bening. She's famous, sure, but she's easily one of the greatest actresses of our time and has somehow never won an Oscar. We just watched her in "Running with Scissors", and although the film was one of the worst pieces of crap I've seen in years, she had some amazing, amazing scenes that clearly didn't come from the page.
