Wedding Planning Update! [More:]The next person (I'm looking at you, Mom) to ask me if I've done task X yet is going to get uninvited. And if their question is followed up with "Well, you'd better do that soon or..." they're getting slapped upside the head.

I really see why people take lazy honeymoons on the beach now. Can I take a pre-wedding vacation? Without the fiance?
(((desjardins)))

I love my future mother-in-law, but seriously, when I ask for her opinion all I hear is "Oh, whatever you decide is best," and when I don't ask for her opinion, I hear, "Oh, but shouldn't it be done THIS way?"

Oh boy.

I'm glad we just eloped and got it over and done with at the ward office.

Unsolicited advice: if you're going to have more than 50 people at your wedding, I highly recommend picking a bar near the reception and tell all your friends to go there afterward. Everyone I know complains that they never get enough face time with the bride and groom, and establishing an afterparty ahead of time allows you plenty of time for family and out-of-towners at the reception while guaranteeing you'll get to whoop it up with your friends.

AFTERPARTY YEAH!

Oh, we're totally having one. We're also having a pre-party a few days before-hand, for our friends coming in from out-of-town (ie, all of them).

Also, our rehearsal dinner somehow turned into a pre-reception reception, as my FMIL has invited all the out-of-town guests (ie, all of them). So yeah, I don't think "face time" is going to be much of a problem.

Thanks, the whole thing is at a hotel, so our out-of-towners will be right there, and other guests can stick around if they want to. If we hadn't put down a bunch of deposits, eloping would sound damned good right now.

My mother is constantly sending me emails asking me what SHE should wear. Do I like this dress? How about this one? That one? Like I don't have enough to think about. Jesus christ on a bike, you're over 50, figure it out! I don't give a rat's ass if she shows up in jeans.

The future mother in law is actually the best of the 3 (my mom, my stepmom, and FMIL). She hasn't bugged me about anything yet. YET. My fiance is her only son, and her oldest child, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time before the hammer comes down.

Afterparty? We were so tired after our wedding that we went home and passed out. We'd both been up most of the night before getting the last details ready and hadn't slept much the week before.

Good luck to you! My Mom and sister are planning her wedding (end of December), and it sure does manage to take up a lot of their time. Then yesterday at church my Dad told his Sunday school that "I think we have most of the planning under control". We, Dad, we? Be honest- you haven't lifted a finger, and it's probably better that way for everyone, lol. I, too, am staying out of the way- basically, all I do is say, Yes, Sure, and That sounds nice.

People get really bent out of shape about weddings. Mine was in 1985 (no longer married) but I remember how seriously everyone took everything, when I kept trying to make it fun, and not be bound too tightly by rules. It ended up being a legendary party, so the wedding was a success, if not the marriage.

Ugh, sorry about the stress, desjardins. Makes me glad that all the people close to me know my personality and knew that I would ignore anything they said anyway so they didn't bother :) I had the least stressful wedding planning of anyone I know

I would want to get married quietly and then have the party several weeks later.
