Discovery! What new (to you) music have you found lately?
Datarock is just catchy fun.
Los Campesinos! is maybe too clever, but also catchy fun.
(and somewhat less recently, the following...)
Dntel is the other half of Postal Service.
Bon Iver is maybe the best chill music I've heard all year.
Also. If you go to Theatre of Disco's myspace and listen to "On the Train", it's goofy but it's got a funky beat and i can dance to it.
Funny you should ask. I've been boning up on Chinese punk rock, like Brain Failure (MySpace). There quite a trove of video. I'm betting we'll see these guys in a Buick commercial or something right around the Olympics...
Not new to me, but kinda rediscovered lately: Ella Jenkins, Steve Reich. New to me: the late Rufus Harley, Soundway's newish '70s-Nigeria compilations, Defacto.
And I've been listening to lots of stuff with Hamid Drake on it (especially his recordings with Peter Brotzmann), and loving him lately even more than usual. And, yesterday, somebody forced me to listen to a Devendra Banhart (sp?) song without telling me who it was, and I totally dug it.
