Time for another round of "What's on your desktop?" [More:]I'm not quite happy with my icon placement yet. But I do like the new wallpaper I grabbed this morning!
Desktop? I'll give you my whole office! Bonus view out the window.

I can't really post a screenshot of my work desktop (security and all that) but here's my wallpaper.

I actually haven't changed it since the last time - I just like it too much!

Wolfdog, is that . . . Lee's Chapel? Is Traveller burried to the left of the structure?
posted by rainbaby 13 June | 09:00
Also: the morning ride in and some ideas taking form slowly around the room (that's my real desktop for getting things done!). Sorry, I don't so often have a camera, and was a little enthusiastic this morning.
posted by Wolfdog 13 June | 09:00
Yes, and Traveller's grave is on the right as you face the chapel.
posted by Wolfdog 13 June | 09:02
OMG! Score!

I know, on the right as you look at it, but on the left if you are in the building.

That is one of the freakiest museums. See Lee's beard clippings!, etc.

Beautiful campus, beautiful town.

I have this picture.

Plain black background, old-school Windows theme, folders marked 'Personal,' 'Work' and 'Old Work,' Recycle Bin. I mostly try to keep the [computer] desktop empty.

I win the most boring desktop contest! Same as I've had for over a decade.

Any clever nerds out there who can work out why I use it?

You need something with a 4:3 aspect ratio handy?

Hey, how do you do a screenshot in OSX?
posted by Stewriffic 13 June | 10:06
Cmd-Shift-3 for the whole screen or -4 to drag and capture a region.
posted by Wolfdog 13 June | 10:07
Oh, nice. figured it out. But it's a .tiff, which I can't seem to upload to photobucket, darn it.
posted by Stewriffic 13 June | 10:12
That's peculiar that it saved it as a tiff, but if you open it in preview you can save as any format you like.
posted by Wolfdog 13 June | 10:17
Ok, I did it through preview. will now try via shortcut key.

AWESOME! Thanks.

I need a better wallpaper.
posted by Stewriffic 13 June | 10:18
Clarification: I took a screenshot through Preview first, because that's what Help came up with. So then I did it your way, which THANK YOU!!! YAY!
posted by Stewriffic 13 June | 10:19
I also can't screenshot due to security concerns, so I'll just link you to the flickr page of the photo I'm currently using as wallpaper.

Today's special.

I can do a screenshot due to this being a crappy work computer with barely any RAM and no photo editor, as far as I can tell, but the wallpaper is my most recent cat pic:

Make that, I CAN'T do a screenshot due to... etc etc
posted by BoringPostcards 13 June | 11:56
The photo is from a Mefite's flickr stream.

This pic, cropped and resized. And a whole mess of files that should really be deleted or moved.

Wolfdog almost had it. My desktop has rectangles of 640 by 480 pixels, and 800 by 600 pixels, because those were the standard resolutions of small monitors. When building a computer program with a user interface or a web page, I can line it up with the rectangle and quickly check that it all fits.
