What yinz doin' for New Years Eve tonight? We're heading all the way around to corner to a neighborhood party that friends are throwing. They live in a partially converted early 20th century flashlight factory so it's a pretty cool space to party in and the short walk home is a good thing.

Bunny pony request Am I the only bunny who keeps losing my MeCha connection when I click on a link? If I do that at MetaFilter or most sites, a new tab opens in my browser. If I do it on MetaChat, the link opens in MeCha's stead.

Weekend 3-point update : 1. Hell neighbour upstairs is still denying that his flat is on the market and that he's moving, despite the estate agents confirming it's been sold. Does he think nobody's seen it on the internet? I was home on Tuesday when the buyer's surveyor came round. I'm hoping it all goes through and that I get a nice neighbour.
2. I bought a beautiful Italian silk blouse in a charity shop today. It's a lovely shade of dark green, and so I have my Christmas outfit all sorted. And it was only £2.25.
3. Tomorrow is Bikram in the morning, then brunch with a friend.
3(a) On Monday I'm working from home because the Tour de France is passing my road and I can't get to the station - the road will be closed from early morning to early evening. I'm excited at being able to see the cyclists and hope they don't whiz by in too much of a blur.

Thursday 3-point update 1. I went to see "Chef" tonight, the Jon Favreau movie. It was great, a feel-good film. And of course there was a lot of food in the movie. At one point, when the lid is lifted up on a Texas BBQ and there are four perfect briskets underneath, I groaned out loud. Needless to say, I was starving by the time the movie ended. But luckily for me I was at the mall and the cinema is next to the food court. So I had Vietnamese rice noodles and managed to resist the cakes in Cafe Concerto, the temptation of a custard Bavarian at Krispy Kreme and the gelato place.
2. I am back in the swing of it at Bikram, really feeling the benefit of it. It's only six weeks until my holiday so I think I might do a juice fast next week. I definitely feel and think better when I'm eating properly.
3. My cleaning service comes on Thursdays, and I love coming home to find all my housework done. I wish I'd done this years ago.

Windows 8, you are kind of stupid My new-to-me (off lease) Lenovo laptop came with Win 8, and doesn't perform well. The maintenance in progress indicator has been on all day. So I go to www.update.microsoft.com, which unhelpfully tells me
Find Windows Update using your Start Screen Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, then tap Search.
If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, then click Search.
Enter Windows Update in the search box, tap or click Settings, and then tap or click Install optional updates.
But I have disabled the swipening because it was incredibly annoying. Yes, I was able to go to control panel and choose update, but srsly, Microsoft, this wasn't helpful at all.

So, I'm now an American! Had my naturalization ceremony in Brooklyn this morning. It took a long time. But yay! Now I can vote!

What eery quirks do you have? When I hear twitter.com I have to fight the urge to pronounce it in a golem way 'tswitser'.
(actually my frame of reference is not golem but the annoying speech impediment of the singer of the Zeeland band Blǿf. But that doesn't mean anything to you)
Also when I hear either
Jeanny (german song by Falco) or
Ich will (by Rammstein) I feel the urge to tune in with either Teutonic creepiness ('...alle wissen daß wir zusammen sind ab heute...') (Falco) or - imperativeness (Rammstein) ('...-in- Bei!-fall! un!-ter!-gehn!')
